Hopefully most of the members here who will vote will be fair and won't entirely base their vote on a map's completeness.

Well, completeness is one the the things you can judge. You each had the same amount of time.

My vote went to "extend". Most maps should be able to reach beta, and with custom flagmodels just released I think people should have some time to get both things finished. Not another month, a week or two

Yeah, I know. I'm just saying that people aren't going to completely dismiss a map simply because it's partially incomplete. :)

"The authors can still continue to develop their maps even after the contest has finished anyway."

I will cry if this gets another extension. Think of us non-participants who are enduring plr and ctf maps every single gameday. I'm sure some people like it, but then there are also people who hate the game modes. Like me. It's getting very old, and I'm looking forward to the end of this.

oddly enough...I am not sick an tired of ctf/ plr maps <_<
So in that sense I call this contest more successful then the last, the last one was incredibly payload overkill

I am sick of koth for some reason though

He didn't say that previously.

...and the rest of us can get on with the next contest...

The next contest wont be announced for ages. Atleast there's normally a ~4 month gap between competition end and the next competitions announcements. I'm hoping the next one wont be until atleast after Christmas (i mean, it's annual, not bi-annual). Competitions steal the highlight from other maps being produced and gamedays need a break from this. As for the minor competitions, they generally have no connection to the annual competitions so bringing the end now or later wont effect those.

Hopefully most of the members here who will vote will be fair and won't entirely base their vote on a map's completeness.

This is one of the hardest things to do because essentially you are marking potential. But i'd go for gameplay 10 pts, layout 10 pts, aesthetics 5pts, then grade the maps by how much i credited each one, so progress doesn't influence my choice too much, but gives fair extra points to those who were more successful (because that does still need to to credited).

I wonder what process will be put in place, though. Because the swamp theme voting caused much contraversy.

I'm going to say no.

As a creative person I totally understand the constant will to tweak, the annoying feeling on the back of the head telling you "it's not perfect JUST YET!", and the painstaking feeling of a deadline coming too close.

That said, the contest has to end at some point... Most of the contest maps I HAVE played are at the very least functional, and should easily hit a beta (even if not very detailed) in the 10 days left. Just do the best you can with the time you have left, and if you feel the contest version didn't do your map justice, you can always pick up where you left of after the contest is over.

The procedure has been outlined in the main contest thread since it's creation before we even released the swamp theme.

I see. I guess i just forgot, it's been a while since i read that thread, as i'm not in the competition. I was querying the fact in light of how the swamp theme voting was handled so innapropriately. I didn't expect for there to be a perfectly good voting system in place and for it to be neglected in other competitions; even if they were minor.

Hmm...not decided on what to vote yet. Part of the problem is that I know for some of the participants is that the problem is less that they were dealing with game-mode problems and more that they were slacking.

three maps is no real competition. I vote extend, otherwise it's a bit of an anticlimax

We could delay all year with that reasoning. The last annual competition ran (in the end) with only 3 real canditates, also with an extension. It was dissapointing but a success none the less. The aims wern't to release a polished RC but to promote neglected game modes. The guys need to start preparing for a release that was scheduled weeks ago.

Agreed, the point of the contest is to have lots of people interested in making a map, not necessarily get in done by deadline time. In fact, many contest payload maps were put on hold and are being worked one again right now. So in the end, even with few contest entries, it yielded many results.

Besides, 3 great payload maps is still a lot when you think about it. Counting Valve maps, that makes 5 great payload maps, which is more than double what it was before.

I would like to see the end of this, get people to do a big push for a map that they're happy with, get everyone to vote on their favorites, declare a winner, the winner wins, and then everyone goes back to finishing their maps.

If there's another extension I might as well start on a plr map. I remember thinking when I first joined tf2maps.net: Gee, what a nifty contest. Too bad I wasn't around earlier to participate. And now, three months later...

I voted no. There have been two extensions, without which the contest would've ended over a month ago. Be happy with the extensions that have already happened, otherwise, nothing would have reached beta. So instead of sitting here reading this post, why aren't you mapping. Yes, you. If you were really wanting to get your map to beta, stop reading, moar mapping!

No. I'm not participating, but deadlines are probably the most important things in game development ever.
When people couldn't finish their map in time, then the last working build counts. Anything unfinished is bad for the contest rating, but nobody will stop working on their maps just because the contest is over, right? A lot of great maps have been started or are even nearing completion so the contest was a success in my book. One might even go as far as to say ratings are childish.
