I got bored and made a quick custom overlay for my map, but I can't get the fading right. I haven't even tried to do the rips.

Someone please explain to me how to do the ripping/tearing and the fading.
Also, bonus points if you get the reference.
@3DNJ, the lighting seems alright, but the one thing that bugs me is the snow on the roofs. You'd think that there would be tapering at the edges to look a bit more believable.

As a physics major, I can wrap my head around some pretty complicated things.
What I don't seem to be able to understand is why the hell you 1) thought that 2) took the time to do such a thing and 3) what you expected from it :/
