I know a bunch of us bought SC4 in the sale a few days ago including Rexy, Political and myself. I thought i'd bring this mod to your attention:

    http://www.simtropolis.com/forum/files/file/21355-network-addon-mod-nam-version-29-for-pc/

Basically SC4 has a number of transport related issues including limited road/rail tile pieces and extremely stupid AI path-finding.

With regards to the AI path-finding, Simoleons will cut through streets and roads by-passing larger roads like avenues and highways in order to take the "shortest" route through the city as opposed to the quickest/most efficient, congesting your residential areas and overlooking public transport such as bus and rail.

After a little querying over on the official forums about certain game issues they forwarded me to this: It is pretty much a community made game patch to fix 90% of Sim City's bugs and problems.

Just a note: NAM makes your game more crashy, specially if you use Trams. But still, it's worth the time and the risk of a crash :) Have been using it for ages.
Also, Simtropolis has a lot of cool mods, that everyone should download, more buildings, landscape objects, maps and stuff like that :p

You just need to make sure you only install what you need. Bad plugin installments cause problems, including over writing a plugin without uninstalling it before installing a new version. My game has been running perfectly fine for the past 3 days. The forum mods said certain plugins wont run in unison, but NAM alone will solve the majority of your needs and is the most developed mod for the game.

Some things that i will say have improved in the game is all congestion issues were fixed as a result of better AI path finding, pedestrian levels also increased. My 3 subway sations went from 7% usage to 52% usage, 7% to 32% usage and 0% to 16%. This raised my transportation fare income from 14 to 104 monthly, though it also meant more cars would avoid my (well placed) tolls bringing toll income down from +$1,400 to $632; though this is actually a city improvement as my toll booths were at 2 out of 5 star rating due to being at +%200 capacity.

Been using the site for quite a while and it's very good, lots of great mods on there (especially to make the game a little easier since I'm horrible at money in the game) such as the Industry multipliers.

Not to mention that NAM adds roundabouts, plot-pieces for diagonal bus stops and more, which makes the game even better.

Thanks for posting that grazr, for as much as I like sc4, there are a few things that really irritate me when I'm playing it. I'll have to give this a try.

It really is amazing, after playing some fresh games i'm starting to notice i can get a higher profit earlier into a cities development (1k instead of $200-$500). I guess that's the result of not having to fork out so many traffic related expenses monthly. Polution levels on avenues also dropped as more people used public transport.

I think the only annoying thing that hasn't been addressed is the lack of control over which direction buildings face. There should be a rotate function if you hold down shift.
