An update to Team Fortress 2 has been released. The update will be applied automatically when you restart Team Fortress 2. The major changes include:
  • Removed ctf_turbine from the Competitive maps list
  • Updated Mann vs. Machine to use the new ping information system already in use for Casual and Competitive matchmaking
    • In particular, parties with members from differing regions should now have a better queue experience
  • Correction from the Scream Fortress VIII release notes:
    • Added a taunt Unusualifier
      • A new tool that will Unusualify a specific taunt with a random Unusual effect when the tool is applied to the taunt

Whoa whoa whoa, you're telling me that someone at Valve remembers that MVM exists?

If you look at like every single one of the past like 8 patches, almost every single one has had multiple MvM bug fixes. They didn't forget, don't be sassy.

Maybe we're getting all these bug fixes because they're planning on making Iron Gauntlet official at some point.

Too bad I can't get rainbows here like on Facepunch.

imo they should've put Landfall in the comp list instead. It's got a simple layout that caters to all classes, and it's neither too hard to attack or too hard to defend.

I think the CTF gamemode in comp is way too challenging and lengthy in the first place, so I wouldn't recommend it for something like Valve Official comp.I would recommend it for teams in UGC-like comp though, as they may play it better.

CTF makes a poor gamemode for matchmaking because you have to divide your team into an attacking and defending group which A) is very very difficult in matchmaking because of the general level or organization and B) makes it difficult for either team to ever get intel if both teams are competent. You basically need to have a perfectly executed moment where one of your defenders becomes and attacker for the big push where you cap the intel, then quickly reverts to being a defender to make sure that your own intel doesn't get captured.

I think a lot of the problem with CTF is that it lacks a mechanic that dozens of CTF gamemodes in different games have, which is that a defender can return their intel to their base by touching it if an opponent drops it. This would be great for tf2 because a team wouldn't have to be so aggressive with their defense. As it is right now if your intel gets moved out of the intel room by a decent distance, it is virtually capped. This makes it necessary that people turtle up on defense to ensure that the intel never gets moved in the first place. If you could return the intel just by touching it, people would be more likely to play aggressive classes to pursue cappers, and there wouldn't be so much emphasis on having a stationary team.
