Ok, OK, I'm a TF2 fanboy, I know and acknowledge this. But even I agree that the Notch hat is going WAY to far. A promo Item is Ok in my book if everybody has the CHANCE of acquiring it, THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!

we NEED to start a petition or something!!!

Rally the people of Spuf, giving something to somebody who won't even put his game on steam is UNACCEPTABLE!!!

I don't care if only one person will get it, it still looks retarded and I'm disgusted that it's in the game at all.

Adding another model just for one player because we all know there are no loading or performance issues with the client, nope

That's my main issue with it...
Artstyle ? meh. It's vaguely fitting (it's just a carboard box... with a giant fedora on top), we've seen worse. I don't care enough to be jealous about the exclusivity. But forcing one new model on everyone just for one person who I'll probably never meet in-game ? That's dumb.

The wiki implies more people could own it in future, but the item description suggests otherwise (that it's entirely exclusive), like when a user gets an item officialised and gets a unique customised version of said item for themself.

This kind of thing would have been cute back when TF2 wasn't already saturated with weapons/hats/misc. I imagine it'd be really amusing to see it, but if Notch doesn't even play the game, what's the point.

I think Notch said in some interview that he wants to sell Minecraft on Steam but there were problem with updates and rules of Steam.

notch enjoys his liberty and all those pre-release builds he can do. why would you go with steam if you can distribute the game yourself? steam is great and all but if you can do it yourself and not fail, don't go with steam

This. There isn't even an argument for putting it on steam. The fact being you can link it through steam by going Game > Add A Non Steam Game and still have Shift Tab work. As far as I'm concerned, Minecraft doesn't need steam, but steam would LOVE and I mean REALLY LOVE to have Minecraft in their platform. I think this hat is a testament to that fact.

Yea, but i don't really see any negative aspect for having it on steam, which begs the question "why not?"; and i'm pretty sure having it on will mean even more revenue and support, even if only a little it's still an improvement. There's not really an arguement for not having it on steam besides the technical issues Notch mentioned that are currently still in discussion between him and Valve.

Notch would clearly love to have MC on steam if only he could figure out how to update his client with out putting Valve out on a limb in the process. Since obviously Notch is not Valve, who are the ones who control steam and its updates.

But does Minecraft even need any more advertising? It's become pretty popular on its own.
