Tiftid submitted a new resource:

sky_dystopia - A small collection of dreary and depressing sky textures.

These sky textures are intended to be versatile; equally useful on overcast days or nights, with or without rain.

Only two full skyboxes are included currently.
More skyboxes and assorted bonus textures are planned.
sky_dystopia_01 is a dark grey skybox with an implied sun location and lots of yellow glow.
sky_dystopia_02 is a more general-purpose, lighter grey skybox with dark, swirling stratocumulus clouds, and a gradient to brown near the horizon. Below the...

I modified them to suit these sky textures.
I did not release the modified versions publicly.
I can do so, if you like.

Tiftid updated sky_dystopia with a new update entry:

V3 - When I said more sky textures are planned, I meant it

  • Added sky_dystopia_06, a new sky I painted all by myself with my mad art skillz
  • Added source images and project files for sky_dystopia_06 (other two will be uploaded too if literally a single soul shows interest)
  • Changed out the BSPs for VMFs because I could not give less of a fuck whether or not you steal my work which you could already have done with a decompiler anyway
    • This does not include the arena_exhaust reskin since arena_exhaust was made by...

Hey, do you think these could get an update someday? I like the idea but the implementation has issues. It's not seamless, and it's incredibly obvious where the corners and "walls" are. This goes for all of the textures.

One day.
The non-seamlessness is a partially a product of the obviousness, itself caused by the perspective transform as you get close to the join between two walls of the skybox. I could probably play with transforms in GIMP in an attempt to fix that.
Ideally I would instead make these as a spheremap or panorama which I would then transform into a cubemap, but that approach has its own issues.
I think my ultimate preference would be to isolate each cloud and the background gradient as a set of regular textures, so that users have more control overall with stuff like placement, fog, rotation/translation, etc...
That's probably a little too time-consuming, though.
