No HL2 content in this contest. Feel free to use it with the swamp theme outside of this contest, but for this contest, we're keeping by our TF2 content (What's the the TF2 Materials.GCF), and the Swamp Pack. No custom/HL2/CSS/HL/Quake/Pong content please :3

Might want to edit the OP and contest page to clarify on this line then.

"No other custom content allowed, only the Swamp content and Valve's released content allowed"

First Map

First TF2 Map. Just happens to be for a contest.

Now i just need to learn how to use particles, and get better at lighting.

Wow, I hope those supports are all func_detail :|

Also, do we need to package the particles file with the map?

what ^ said. The only world geometry i have is the skybox and nodraw ground. The rest is func_details, displacements, props, overlays, & particle effects.

Wip, currently too big (3k*3k) and has a 3D skybox. forgot netgraph...heh...low framerate is due to abusing rain particle effects: 28 gutter & water splash effects, 18 collision sawmill 1024 rain particle effects, 16 water ripple effects... With a few small clouds in the distant sky :3

EDIT: Right after I posted this I finally found what I needed to fix my water problem, so all's well I guess. Hopefully I can get this fully decked out and detailed in the next 6 days. Not expecting to win since this is my first (second?) map but it is a learning experience nonetheless.

Again it's pretty much bare right now aside from all the landscaping I did but that's definetely going to change.

See my sig for cubemap stuff, the simplest way for displacements: use a large brush ~15+units and get a rough shape then if it's too jagged set the power to 2 and then back to 3, then fine tune anything.

Actually it was finally coming across your cubemap tutorial that helped me figure out what i needed to do, so thanks.

Been working like a madman on this and have finally gotten things to just about complete. There's a few things left to do including optimization, final compiling, and taking a screenshot with everything turned all the way up, but I'm happy with how it's come along so far (although I might have overdone it with the particle effects)

And yes, there is something in the house but I'm saving that for when I submit it. Of course it occurs to me that somebody will have probably had the same idea as me, but oh well, c'est la guerre

ever since the patch (I don't now if it was the big one or one fo the small one's fixing it's bugs) I can't join a map with water_murky in it, while loading, TF2 crashes and it's very unfortunate since I was using that water in my contestmap :( I guess I have to settle with water_swamp :/

did you get the updated swamp pak? they changed the water murky the first one doesnt work anymore.
