Hello people of TF2Maps.net! I am here to tell you about an idea i got for a new contest that iv'e never seen thought up of by anyone else ever!

The big idea is that everyone collaborates onto one gigantic map by making sections of it together. An advantage to this method is that everyone only dies a little bit of work, so they arent distracted from their own projects.

It would work by everyone making a single capture area for a payload or attack defend map (I haven't decided which yet, so i'm letting you guys choose. post what you want in the poll and the winner will be mapped.

Once the deadline has passed (I haven't set one yet, so don't worry) I will take all the sections that have been submitted and string them together into a massive map.

==RULES==

-Because everyone probably has a different idea on how the map will look like, your entry must be completely in dev textures so we don't get desert next t snowland next to forest. I will be doing the aesthetics.
- Try to have at least one entrance/exit to your section, which is easily identifiable. Any more, and i may have trouble stringing it to another map.
-When we decide on making a PL or CP map, you are not allowed to make the other one, as it has no way of fitting in.
-Try to keep the entrance and exit of your map in a straight line, so that we don't end up with map sections overlapping due to too many right turns in a row.

==Notes==
-I may edit your map to make it fit in with other maps.
-Everyone who contributed will be recognized as a creator.
-You are allowed to make two entries

Because this contest isn't being run by tf2maps.net, think of it as a minor contest that you don't need to enter. But hey, if anyone of the site owners like my idea, feel free to make it a main event for the summer, as long as i get credit for the idea.

If you have any ideas to change the rules of the contest, feel free to let me know and I will add them to the list.

-I may edit your map
-I will be doing the aesthetics

I feel kind of offended that you would have to point out "When we decide on making a PL or CP map, you are not allowed to make the other one, as it has no way of fitting in."

but thanks for clarifying, i might have put a payload in a cp map on accident le dorito face :^)

Hexacosichoron, this isn't really a contest. You're asking people to create sections of a map that you will then sew together and artpass. I'm not sure how that is a contest.

Besides obvious flaws, like the fact that everyone's mapping style is different so each "section" of the map will likely be vastly different, I really don't see anyone wanting to take part in this. There is such thing as collaborative maps but they're usually between two or three people and require a significant amount of planning between the mappers.

If you really want to make a collaborative map, I'd suggest finding a buddy to work with and dedicate a few months of your life to planning.

This is in the wrong section and so i'll be moving it to the Contest section and large collaborative maps have been tried before, to not much success. I also don't really see how this needs to be a contest other than giving you the chance to pick the stuff you like of other people's work and make it your own. If you want to just have an excuse to detail go grab one of the orphaned maps that are open to anyone in the repository and start detailing it.

No offense, but that's a horrible idea for a "contest". How is it even a contest if there's no winner and no prize?

It's a new form of contest where there is no judging. Everyone is given a participation award because we don't want people to feel bad for not 'winning' and not getting any prizes.

Yeeaaah..... I dont' know why I called it a contest :/ Probably because I got the idea while looking at other people contest ideas, so my brain mixed the two together and got this.

But anyways, thanks for the feedback, and I must say, I do agree. This was a stupid idea. Like anyone's first post on a forum, its the most derpiest thing there and their biggest regret. Like most of my ideas that make it to the internet, this seemed good in production, but when looking back, it's just stupid.

Now how do I close a thread...
