iirc, there were 2 or 3 contests specifically for textures, so why not one for a model? It's not tf2textures, after all.

What about just a theme contest: creating textures, models, sound scapes hammer areas for the chosen theme :)

TC.. I can see it now

The Mapping Contest Finishes in 2 Years, 67 Days, 13 Hours, 37 Seconds.

Way too huge of a project.

Except the ranve of ability in the modelers here is quite large. with most having never even attempted it.

I'd be interested in one but likely dont have the time to do anything major. a small prop (<400 polys) might be nice, quick to make models for things like buckets, wall supports, fences ect.

Yes, I think a Model or Texture contest would be good, We could point towards Blender for new Modelers and the GIMP for Texturing..

For a contest I'd love to see something like "create your own theme" where you can work in teams, to create an environment (doesn't need to be much, just some models and textures would be fine but it all depends on how long the contest would last etc) It wouldn't matter if more than one theme created the same theme, and would be judged by popular vote. It would also give people some more experience in creating custom content for maps and things, broaden their horizons, so to speak.

I agree on the make your own theme contest in teams of 10 randomly selected by tf2 maps owner and they are added with eachother in some sorta special friends group where they talk bout it although people wud probs come up with same themes

Lets just not even continue this line of discussion. it will never work. Never ever.

A modeling contest is looking far more likely than when it was originally suggested. The idea is begining to grow on me (probably because i can actually model now :p) but I'm still hesitant to think its a good idea due to the vast number of people who can't model at all.

I am about to learn modeling (as soon as i find time), and i also need a model for my map that i want to do myself, so this would fit perfect for me :)

As far as I'm aware there are no small contests difinetively lined up for once the CTF vs PLR contest is over, so if you lot want a modeling contest, speak now or forever hold yer tongue! (and the same goes for if you dont want one!)

I want one. I'll be willing to write a help tut (from start to finish process) for those wanting to learn Lightwave. It'll be inclusive.

I wouldn't mind a small model competition.
