Hi I'm a new member to TF2 maps. I'm just starting to try and learn how to make them and am following crashes videos. I used to play a ton of TF2 and am currently studying game design in college and want to be a level designer. I figured it would be great to make some maps for the TF2 community and a great way to learn more about level design as well. So if you guys have any advice or tips to give me it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks All!

Hi welcome to TF2Maps, we hope you enjoy your stay! The cafe is right down the hall, first door on your left. We serve free breakfast every morning from 6 am to 11 am. Biscuits are served on Tuesdays. Be sure to join our steam group ( http://steamcommunity.com/groups/TF2Mappers ) and hang out in the steam group chat with all the cool kids!

Though Crash's tutorials are great, you can learn even more from TopHattWaffle's tutorials, and 3klikskhilip's tutorials! Links below:

TopHattWaffle (even though he does CS:GO and Portal, pretty much all of this will still work in TF2): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-454Fe3dQH1L38FnKkz_O1CqYx6sKaXk

My advice for designing levels to be played in TF2, is to have lots of height variation. Dont make your entire payload track, or entire map all on one brush. Look at some of the fan-favorite Valve maps, such as Upward, and look at some of your favorite maps, and look at how they are designed. Also, don't get disappointed if your first map isn't so great, no one starts out good. But thats a major reason why we are here, to help you improve! So I encourage you to take mapping like a fun activity, and if you learn from your mistakes and from other's feedback, you can make some pretty cool things! Have fun! :D

I also feel that the maps shouldnt be blocky (if you look at official maps, they tend to not be very blocky and have more non-90 degree angles). I think angles that arent 90 degrees are more fun to be around and fight around.

Hello from the other side. The other side being the cafeteria where I'm waiting it to open again, I got there too late.
