Now we just need some "high quality" "simulation" "props" made out of cardboard and bowling balls. Attached using ducktape.

I didn't save the original with separate layers so I had to use the healing brush over the old graphic, hopefully it isn't too noticeable

The man could be a little more to the left.

I have no idea how, but I'm going to attempt to contribute to this.

I'm thinking about going out and recording sounds. About 8 minutes either way of my house we have a beach and to the other side a jungle. I'm sure New Zealand's wildlife would make for some interesting soundscapes in a jungle setting (if there is to be one)

I made a model of a sewer grate with 3 skins and 2 LODs. It's not fantastic, but at least i'm learning. I plan to make the concrete holder as a prop for the grate also. You can see the different skins in the scale pictures.

I have tried importing it with a scale of 1.5 and 2 and i am stuck on which one to use. Which one do you think fits the TF2 artsyle more?

It looks triangle-heavy for what it is, and a simple transparent texture is generally better for detailing purposes. decrease the number of rows of supports while leaving the 3 ones will help. i'd draw a picture but i'm lazy so i hope you understand :(

It's not very triangle heavy, the 1st LOD is 2,496 tris and 2nd LOD has 1052. That doesn't seem like alot. The 1st LOD is a beveled version of the 2nd and looks better. If you want i can decrease the distance it takes for the LODs to switch, and decreasing the CPU load. Also, i think decreasing the amount of bars on one side would make it look out of proportion.
The axis with more bars has around 4 for every 1 on the other axis and that's what i followed.

If you want i could make a third LOD that decreases the number of bars. :)

How about a floor texture that looks like bamboo? And how about some cardboard aquatic animals to go with the cow?

~2500 tris for one grate is insane when it could be 2 or 4 tris by using a grate texture

Leswordfish, I didn't know that was weird, here is one that is like mine:

But there are also some like you described:

Trotim and TheBestUsername, I wanted to make it 3D so it could link multiple levels together visually. Also i feel a 2D transparent texture wouldn't really cut it as a sewer grate when close enough to it.
I'll take out the the high resolution model, add more brushstrokes, and take out some bars. Here goes my day :/

It should have taken you exactly 152 triangles to make that geometry. Actually less if you remove the sides that are always going to be touching brush geometry. Like Trotim said, 2500 triangles is... well, pretty insane for a environment piece that minor.

I looked up bamboo flooring after you said that, and it really doesn't look any different than normal wood flooring to me...maybe lighter brown.
