True, but have you done that with a single brush restriction? Why do it with a single brush? why not? Perhaps as a challenge? knowing the deepest and darkest brush techniques? choose your reason, its knowledge.

How to turn that odly placed 4-gon into two triangles?

press Ctrl + f when selecting these two vertices. apply to all 4 sides.

that turns it into this, which is a valid solid

Smooth those pylons!
EDIT: And 5cp would indeed be a better idea.

either 2-point gorge style (but it's way too small for that, or cp 2 (and general area of cp 1) of a 5cp map.

that would be an interesting payload map - use the truck as the payload - you ride inside the bin to push the cart :)

Smoothing groups are wonky IIRC. They've never autosmoothed for me I don't think.

Auto smothing noticeable in this screenshot. Notice the sharp edges on the top 3 segments compared to the smoother vertical pillars.
Or this screenshot.
Or this one, notice the smoothness of the curved wall.
Or this one, which actually demonstrates how unreliable auto-smooth can be, as the angles between those arch segments are roughly the same.
or the curved wall above the cap point on the right.

The thing about autosmoothing is that the lightmap scale has to create smaller "pixels" than the width of the faces. I have no idea what to do when the faces literally taper to a point, but try turning it down to 8 for now and see if that does anything.

Of course. You don't want everyone to land on your control point.

No, that's what he's calling that theme (in other words, wtf is with that dirt ground).

its a texture used in the underworld in viaduct_event.

use the word "event" in the texture browser and you'll find it.

edit:
random displacement detail thing.

this april fool contest is somehow encouraging me to push my displacement-fu and environment-fu to new unheard-of levels. :-\
