I had to know about it, we had to give them all the assets.

Ha, wasn't thinking there. :p

Anyway, congrats to you and all of the other contributors to this update. I'm going to be spending tomorrow absorbed in this stuff, so it better be good...

This comes a year and a week after zpqrei first had that chat with Valve about the future of compensation for TF2 mappers.

So are these permanent tf2 maps or is it like the csgo operations where new ones are rotated through? Or is only the official map permanent? I'm confused.

Either way, this is motivation for me not to give up on maps half way through and actually release them. Have like 3 I need to rebuild from the ground up.

Somebody please explain how all these nerfs to sentry longevity help the game. The Wrangler one is understandable, but the rest seem like way overkill and far overshadow the minor buff to initial construction speed. A/D maps are based around running into defenses and working to take them down, doesn't this just unbalance all those maps in favour of BLU? I can't see it at all.

I'm talking specifically maps that got swept under the radar "the second day of the workshop", "early development first on the workshop and aren't rated highly until theyre done". For those maps it doesn't seem 'easily' possible since they'd have to come back from under the mass of other maps - or will the authors have to resubmit them?

Oh. Then yeah, those kind of maps might have trouble. I imagine for development maps, resubmitting once it's done could be a viable strategy though.

Definitely.

Also, people like Fantasmos will be well appreciated for flythrough marketing material :D

Disabling weapon spread by default seems odd to me. I thought inaccuracy was supposed to be how things like the pistol were balanced against things like the revolver. Does this mean the pistol will now have the "+" crosshair since it's always firing a perfect dead-center shot?

From what I understand these maps are being added permanently however they are being paid for through the campaign funds vs Valve just buying the maps and using map stamps.

I don't think Valve will remove the maps when done with this campaign and they move to the next one, that would really make the community pretty angry.

That's not the type of spread they mean, ya dummy. It says "damage spread" is disabled by default, as in weapons will no longer deal randomly varying damage.

Ah. So it's not the kind of spread that community servers like to disable. I dunno; weapon spread was one of those things that I've heard people say ought to be removed from the game, like critical hits, so maybe Valve would be crazy enough to actually do it.

They're also talking about damage spread in that case. Which is also what most community servers disable.

I don't think I've been on a server where bullet spread has been disabled.

I have. I have very distinct memories of firing a scattergun at a wall repeatedly and getting a perfect octagon pattern of bullet holes every time.

At first we thought it would be some more formalised workshop integration, but that doesn't seem to be what's happening at all. They seem to be straight up community maps as normal.
The only difference is (if the campaign passes sell well) they'll earn more for the authors in two months than several years of stamps.

The only question is how well will the campaign passes sell?

(there is another question: do the authors get any of the revenue from the keys for this event, or just the campaign passes? but that'll be answered soon)

Bullet spread is enabled by default because the fixed weaponspreads have moire/aliasing problems. The center pellet deals twice as much damage, because it's actually two pellets. There are also problems with aiming just on or just off center. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zMFyX3XSGlQ

Yeah I hope you guys get a small percentage of the key sales as well, even if it's only a very small percentage you would make a ton of money.

This is great news, especially if Valve keeps doing this every 3 months. A couple of new community maps every few months would be so great and an easy way for Valve to add a large amount of content to the game.
