    Feel free to block something out and run around in it yourself, sure. A test sounds like a long stretch though (you can test in your 72 hours, there'll be multiple imps throughout the weekend)

    I'm probobly going to pull back and do a small SFM short or poster instead this time around because of my work hours, a full-on map might kill me even if I skipped sleeping.

    I feel even blocking out and even putting in the actual work before the time starts is a bit against the whole idea, too, though. Like, you can sketch things out on paper and such, and mentally prepare and all that, but I feel in the spirit of things, you shouldn't be touching Hammer for your entry until the timer starts.

    Like it says in the OP and FAQ: you can plan, but you can't start.

    I think what they want to do is do some work in Hammer first, then start over when the contest timer begins, using their knowledge of where things are going to go and the scale of it (no copy/paste).

    Like sketching in 3D, basically.

    What better time to do that thing that I've always thought about than now.

    Also, if I were to... say... commission some art for my entry, would that fall under the purview of assets being public and, by extension, not be able to use them?

    And I don't mean textures and models for a map this year. (He he he.)

    Hmm... On the one hand I don't want people paying to get chunks of their work done for advantage. On the other, I don't want to completely lock down the "commission included" option. Could you PM me with more details? Is there a way you could collaborate with someone instead?

    im thinking of making a PL map with a unique and funny ending. aswell as hawing red be able to capture a control point to slow down blues progres. but ofcorse! im new to mapping still. only hawing 1 bad indoor(but pretty) map under my belt!

    i will go and make a PL map so i can learn how to make a PL map. i am gonna use the abs's templates during the 72 hour jam.(altho i haw school on monday so its more of a 60 hour jam for me.)

    but first! gotta learn haw to make everything manualy incase something does not work right. im actualy familiar with how the path_track works on a basic level. so i should be fine... hopefully...

    I'll be honest: nobody understands how payload works properly, it's the most complicated PvP mode. I would suggest instead testing out how your Capture Point mechanic works instead.

    i said that il try making a PL map to test the gamemode out. and then in the 72 hour jam i'l use abs´s gametype library to make the map during the jam. the test map that i'l make before the jam is probably not even gonna be public. i'l be careful.

    Without using ABS or the VDC, make a payload cart. Go on.

    Maybe I was being flippant but yeah, it's a complicated mode. You should definitely know how the basics of I/O works, but building a payload cart from scratch is IMO pointress when you can not.

    Payload isn't that complicated, right? Off the top of my head, you only need a func_tracktrain, func_dispenser, team_capture_zone, trigger_hurt, two env_spark, func_regenerate (or is it func_dispenser?), env_dispenser_effect (or w/e it's called), a constraint, and a prop_physics_override. It's no KOTH but it's no TC either.

    You just said "Only" and then listed ten entities. Just for the cart. Most entire gamemodes are simpler than that.

    I posted that in jest, but I get what you are saying.

    Also I forgot that the cart also requires a trigger_hurt as well as a filter_class_name to destroy buildings.
