It's great. I've been using it since the beta and I have no qualms and no reasons to go back to XP. :)

I got Home Premium, and I'm very impressed with it so far. I'm glad I ordered early though, as it doubled in price a couple of days after I bought it :p. The new taskbar is a big improvement and the 'Aero' stuff is fun, although Snap seems to be the only really useful one.

I have no reasons to go to 7 :p

To me, I'm happy with XP, and none of the new features make me want to go buy 7. I would end up spending my half-term installing all my programs/games.

I have to say i'm reformatting within the next week or so, when i replace my graphics cards, and windows 7 is looking rather appealing. How much have you guys forked out for it?

£45 for the pre-order offer (Home Premium. Ordered July) and £30 for Professional (Student Deal).

For those of you that are going to format and dread the idea of reinstalling everything I found this piece of awesome - Ninite. You select any of the programs listed that you want to install, download the setup file, launch it then bugger off for a while to come back to a computer with everything installed. :D

I paid about £60 (approximately $100) for Home Premium from Amazon.co.uk, but the price has gone up to £100 now.

most important features to me: faster boot, 64bit...finally all my ram is visible!

nice little details: task bar is interesting, saves a hell of a lot of space when you have enough windows to fill 2 monitors, tf2 boots about 3x faster then xp

cool surprises: my video card has not crashed in 15 hours of tf2 since I installed 7, the odd time tf2 does crash the OS tells you the program has stopped responding, allows you to instantly close it (no delay), you can then launch tf2 in about 15seconds, and reconnect to the server in about 15 seconds. Wireless is working perfectly, unlike before when I would frequently need to restart the router and computer before. I can download with 80% of my connection with minimal lag in tf2.

downsides: I seem to have lost about 10 frames per second in game, this drops me to the 50-80 range. Considering this is about what I gained by OCing my video card and i was considering removing that to fix the crashes I am not too concerned.
And my integrated sound card has started working properly, why is this a downside? Its a 5.1 card, and now its actually working like it should, that means that I can't plug in both my headsets and my speakers and have them all output exactly the same sound. So im stuck to using only one for the duration <_<

Oh and I got it from my school, so it was free. I have also been told by my work that I can get a free copy by paying for shipping <_<

Here, I do. Got it for about 100€.

As of now I'd say it's a clear upgrade from XP. I've never had Vista, but the people I know seem to like Win7 way better (so far).

I'd say if you still have XP, upgrade as soon as you can, because I can see a lot of new software not working on older machines (before Vista), now that the standards are established.

Well, TF2 has usualy taken me around 30seconds to start up, which doesn't bother me becuase I barely play it now anyway, and it has crashed about twice in the past year. But if someone offered me it for free, then I'd probably take it and let Steam download all my games over the course of a school day or two.

I don't think anything I use would require 7. I doubt I'd ever need to upgrade to launch any Steam games or SDK. One thing that would slightly interest me in 7 is if the L4D authoring tools Hammer editor loaded up instantly, so I don't have to find something else to do while I wait for it.

I got 7 yesterday and I can safely say I love it.

For you all, I present the TF2 Theme for Windows 7. I give all the credit of the artwork to their creators and the soundclips to Valve. I simply gathered them into this form! If you're interested, it can be found here.

Do you need to patch the windows theme files for this to work?

    Uhh... I'm not sure.
I sent it to a friend and he somehow loaded it up right away, so I'm not sure. Maybe just try the file by itself and see if it does anything. If not, I'll ask my friend what he did.

Yeah it worked fine. Maybe I was thinking of a different kind of themepack

edit: yep, some of the other themes that make certain changes require patching

I can get an upgrade for 24€ (because I bought the laptop a few months ago) but it really seems like it's worth it :) (even my mom says it, and she doesn't even know how get photo's from her digital camera, I think she heard it on the news)

Much better than vista, even though i had no problems with vista.

XP just needs to die i am really glad windows 7 is getting such positive feedback. I have been on it for a month now its great i would definitely recommend it.
