After days of deliberation, a moderate amount of yelling, and an M&M inexplicably up Drew Wolf's nose again, we're happy to announce the winners of the art pass contest. That's right, winners. Multiple. There were so many good-looking and fun maps that it was incredibly tough to narrow them all down to a single entry. So much so that we didn't bother.

Congratulations to Valentin "3DNJ" Levillain and Timothy "YM" Johnson. TF2Maps.net has a page up where you can view the winners of the contest, along with many of the other fantastic entries.

Congratulations, but what's happening now? We'll have two different maps with the same gameplay? Switching randomly? Or what?

I imagine that Ym's map will be for the Halloween Event most likely, like koth-Harvest had a halloween version.

    Congrats to 3DNJ as well.

And, as sore-loserish as this sounds, I feel like I've wasted 2 months of my time, and I'm sure they are others that feel the same. I'm still glad that I had the opportunity to possibly get a map made official, and I'll keep it at that.

I for one did not waste two months of my time, and I didn't even get my entry handed in in time to send to Valve. :smugleaf:

I think a lot of people learnt a lot from the contest. Particularly what is required for reaching an end product (some more than others).

Some people may complain that whilst there can only be one winner the rest of us get left with a wasted 3 months, but that's not entirely true. Certainly not for anyone who tried something new. Not to mention experience through observation (learning from others around you). Mangy and honeymustard had some unique approaches to the granary theme that were enlightening.

I certainly intend to take the granary theme further, and any sensible developer knows it's more efficient to recycle work, even though our clone maps can never go official there's nothing stopping us from cannibalising parts of said map for new projects.

We also got a lot of new cool props.

Congratulations to the winners, the runner-ups, and anyone who went through and submitted. I gave up long before that.

Still, I can say I did learn a few things, generally speaking, as well as improving my efficiency in some areas, it was good practice, allowed me to test the waters for my then-current map project, and I wouldn't mind giving it another try if given the chance, but taking it to the end was just too much effort/too little reward for me.

Every single entry that was mentioned on the official blog deserves to be there. There were certainly some nitpicks for each one, but all of them I felt were contenders. Congrats to everyone!

I think they'll work YM's map into the Red vs. Blue story for the Hallowe'en Update like they did with the previous Hallowe'en Update, it just makes their job all the more easier.

You'll feel bad at first for not winning, but after a while you'll discover that you've probably learned quite a bit from the experience.

Congrats to YM and 3DNJ! (...And welcome to the community contributors club!) :D
