well, you just want people to agree with your setinstone opinion, so there's not too much room for discussion.
basically it's just a single word/expression that you disagree with, so i don't know how we could come to terms in here
To be honest, I saw something blatantly defying well-known rules of reality (ie "an electric shock doesn't magically give you 20L of blood) and made a "should" statement about it which as far as I can see, has no grounds for disagreement. Ideally, valve should somehow be linked to this thread, and all decide on the spot that I'm right, and change the name immediately.
Of course, that's thoroughly idealistic, realistically there's all sorts of problems with social inertia and whatnot, and effort that someone would have to put in to change it would result in a "CBF factor", but the point is in theory the name is ludicrous for the actual scenario (because valve said themselves that "realism mode" is
for people who want extra challenge in working as a team beyond just upping the difficulty, and that sounds awfully suspiciously like a hardcore mode or something similar), and anyone who disagrees is pretty much missing the point.
So just to recap and to simplify it:
1.The main point of the mode isn't actually to make it realistic, it's to enforce more teamwork, basically.
2.It isn't particularly realistic anyways, as indicated in the first post.
3.It is, however, more realistic than the normal mode, although that would make it "more realistic" mode, rather than "realism mode".
4. A name's primary purpose (for a gameplay mode, at least) tends to be to convey the function of whatever the mode actually
does, what sort of purpose you would actually use it for, and/or what makes it different, to some extent.
5.Due to points 1, 2, and 3, I conclude there are much more appropriate names in terms of point 5.
Not too much room for discussion? You can make a discussion of anything, just take a look at the
Flat Earth Society.
Also, yes I am aware my arguments are written fairly messily.
