Invisible water [No, really.]

I've seen just about every thread about how to make water properly; looking at valve's website, ALL THE TUTORIALS, and still nothing, I have this unending problem, that whenever I try to put in water, it shows the skybox instead of the water texture.

I don't have any leaks.

What do?

Water texture should be applied to the top face of the normal cubic brush, other faces should be nodraw.

This is precisely what I have been doing, and this happens nonetheless.

Hm, I think you might have to add more screenshots here, like how this brush looks like in hammer or maybe check if there's something in compile log. Also, did you tried changing water texture on another one? Maybe that'll work, I suppose.

I've tried about 6 textures, and same result each time.

I don't see anything in the compile log, but maybe you could look at it?

If you're getting trouble with your water faces not loading, load your pointfile, and if it loads, uncheck auto in your visgroups... find the red line, and fix the leak...
If nothing appears in the pointfile, check the problem report... (alt+p)
If, still, nothing appears, now would be a great time to come to us...

Important notice to prevent future troubles:
VVis.exe has to run completely for water to be able to work. That means that not only leaks will break it, but also simply compiling in 'fast' mode will too.
