GreenMarine: Selectable loadouts a possibility

So I was lurking the TF2 SA thread and this caught my eye:

GreenMarine, what's the deal with there not being class load out selections like Call of Duty? It'd be really handy to have players be able to save their load outs and just click a single button when they want to switch from a stock engie setup to a gunslinger setup.

Even better would be the ability to script it to a single key so you don't even have to open the load out screen in spawn, you just hit a key and instantly switch out your primary/secondary/misc slot.

This is a shoddy concept sketch and I'm no UI expert but you could put the buttons on the class selection screen:

I'm really surprised this feature isn't already implemented given the number of weapons in the game right now, it'd just make load out changes that much easier.

Selectable loadouts would be good. We just haven't gotten around to coding any yet.

Oh and for those who don't know GreenMarine is a Valve employee.

Well if Valve does get around to it no more having to redo your loadout every time you change map, just select your pre-set or whatever Valve come up with.

We've had the polypack items for a year already? Hell.
I think selectable loadouts would be fantastic, I'd spend a lot less time in menu. Beleive me, I spend a lot of time in there :p

I used to have scripts for changing my loadout. But then they removed the "equip" command and I was sad.

It would be pretty handy, though personally i don't tend to swap loadouts per map, i know how i play well with each class; only if a specific (player) threat requires me to change tactics from my personal style to a more durable/stock play, which usually only involves swapping gunboots for shotty or my engi's sentry. Maybe scattergun to FaN if i feel like being a bitch to enemy soldiers on open/death trappy maps. So i might only go to loadout once in a 3 hour session, if at all.

Because Call Of Duty is the paragon of good design choices.

I personally wouldn't use this, I don't change loadouts when the map changes, except for on medieval mode, maybe. As long as it wouldn't be forced to use it, I'd be happy to let it happen and ignore it.

black ops' create class system is shit imo
but we need a way to save loadouts in tf2
I'm spending way too much time on that when switching from my pub loadouts to a 6v6 loadout.
not to mention we have map specific items now (pain train won't do shit on ctf)

Da_Man, I cant see how they could force you to use it :p

Fubar posts great examples of why this would be a nice idea, going from pub to pug or differing game modes in one server.
