Got some problems while making a remake...

So right now i'm trying to make a remake of harvest with a frontline and mann vs machine theme, but i have an issue. I can't really use the decompiled version of harvest, because it automaticly causes bugs and leaks when you alter it, so how do you remake it then? I know, that other people, that aren't valve imployees, have made halloween versions of official valve maps, so how do they get the vmf file?! There must be another way than completely remaking the whole map brush by brush! How could you then ever make maps like 'gorge event' or '2fort invasion'?

If there isn't any way to find the official vmf file or remake it without doing it manually, then please let me know, if there's someone who have made one they're willing to share.

people take decompiled or sdk versions of maps and edit them, fixing problems which arise. It's possible that you can get a hold of heyo, and he might give you the vmf. this is his profile http://steamcommunity.com/id/catchat/

I've friended him forever ago, and must say he's online a lot of time, but now he seems to be gone to csgo mapping, and of course chances he will give you the VMF are slim.
Actually, I kinda doubt he even still has it.

Maybe, but if i make a full reskin of it, call it something like 'koth_harvest frontline reskin' or something and give him full credit for making the original map, and confess that i made it because i liked the map, it would be considered fair use of his work.

What do you mean? I think the map is fun to play on, and i wanted to be creative and make a reskin. Harvest is also small compared to other maps, so it wouldn't be overwelming to do. I'm not lying when i say i like the map, and in fair use, i don't mean in copyright, but i mean in a "It isn't a copy" kind of way.

and if i make this map look diffrend and unique like i originally set out to do, it wouldn't be violating tf2maps's opinion on 'map modifications'

They do own the copyright on it, though, if I understand how buying maps worked prior to the campaign system.
