Question!

Firstly, I really like how the robotic voice clips for each class sound. I also know that they are just the normal voice clips but put through some kind of filter or tampered with in some way. What I want to know is how this was done. I've been playing around with the vocoder effect in Audacity but I can't seem to get it right. Anybody know a program or a website or something that will change normal voice clips to sound like the robot ones?

Huh. I'd always assumed they were just the original sounds run through a filter in real-time, like the Pyroland "helium voices". I wonder why they couldn't have just done that; it would have saved themselves a ton of space.

I assumed they DID do just that. Why on earth wouldn't they?

No, there are pre-made voice clips for the robots in the tf2_sound_vo_english_dir.vpk. I just can't figure out how to edit the normal voices to sound like the robot ones so I can do it with other voices.

It's possible that Source's audio system just doesn't support that sort of thing (helium voices would be very easy and cheap to do). Considering audio cues are still used for looping, it wouldn't surprise me if they just couldn't do it.
