Brace yourselves.

My entry for the Grid detailing contest.

A CTF map made from non-colliding trucks that I manually drew clip brushes over. This was my first map ever back in 2009.

Anyway, this is actually how i got into mapping in the first place. I wanted to make a to scale, mile long tunnel and it would just have tons of ai bots and the prize for winning would be glory. there are no surviving remnants of it (thank god), but every time i shot a wall the textures would fade to black. i did the math on it, and this is my favorite quote from the project, "YIKES 31 HALLS"

Drastically undescaled, made with vertex editing, improperly clipped and all world brushes

the brushwork was unsystematic and sucked completely, look at this lovely worldbrush curve

...which was replaced by a flat wall on blue side.

this thing i made was quite cool, idk if i could use it anywhere. Brushwork, naturally, sucks - all the glass is 1 single brush, which may delete most of inner faces lol
no regrets since then

(Yeah screwed up light_env)
There was supposed to be some zombie apocalypse shit going on too. I think I tried to make a 3cp linear stage TF2 map with this idea but it didn't get far at all.

Good god, don't get me started on cp_spacepirates!

I made cp_spacepirates in the one week I had out of school, spring break for the april fools contest. I was a new member and hadn't mapped for much time before that (which may be an understatement, I have a folder full of >40 vmfs). I made the joke map in the hopes that I would bring an interesting game play mechanic to the community- sacrificing yourself for the capture zone while still having some sort of balance. If you ever played the map, you would think that "balance" was the last thing on my mind! It played horribly- I had no idea how queuing a map for an imp or gameday worked, nor did I know people did that regularly.

However, It was a great learning experience when it came to handling feedback. I was completely overwhelmed and excited about a full server playing a map, which included mappers whom have gotten maps added to the game! I thought it was incredible, and I still think it is. The members on this website are incredibly generous.

I'm still proud of the aesthetics, though. Especially when it came to how I seamed the skybox and play space together.

You can see a video of it being played here, courtesy of @Melvineer.

remember, the fox with a finger who knows not what he is doing, knows that: you start somewhere
