Crafting so far

Messed around with the 2 hats = 1 random hat thing earlier.

Put a Trophy Belt and a Football Helmet in and got a Professional's Panama.
Put the Panama and Mining Light in and got a Football Helmet.

So yea, got rid of a Mining Light to get a hat that I had before I even started. Oh well, still have a Tyrant's Helm that I got last night during the spam of items.

Sounds like me. Two sniper bandanas made a medic's mirror. A mirror and a headless sniper made (gasp!) another mirror. I got lucky with the last sniper bandana and it turned into the gregory bonnet. Now I only have two hats left that I really want.

I hardly ever get any drops so it looks like I've never going to be able to craft any hats.

Two hats (barring Gibus and possibly other 'special' hats) gets you a random hat.

I turned my bonk helm and hatless scout into a tyrant's helm.

I got tyrant's helm last night from random drop :O

True. However the Two unwanted hats ---> New Random hat makes the entire thing worthwhile. It's a gamble, but if you really don't much care for the hats... you've got nothing to lose.

But, it's useless if you've never gotten a real hat in your entire 500-600 hours of playing TF2.

I'd like to get (a) new demoman items, (b) engineer hat. I can't craft either, as I haven't got 4 demoman unlocks to craft a demo class token, and no engineer unlocks exist yet, so you can't craft engineer items. I can only do the random hat and hope it's an engineer one.

The crafting is poorly thought out.

I'm starting to wish I had 81 useless items to smelt. Right now crafting seems as useless as ever. Oh well, I guess I'll just play the game and forget about my hat fantasies.

In other news, I smelted 3 KGBs and got scrap metal.

You can use them along with the ambasador and Cloak and DAggers. I crafted 4 of my 5 DR's and 3 of my 4 C+D's plus 1 of my 2 Ambasadors

IMO the best short-term fix they could do is to alter the "Class Token" recipe to take only two or three items from that class instead of four.

That way it's much easier to craft "that one missing unlock".

After playing hundreds of hours without a hat, I finally managed to get 81 items and decided to gamble to get a hat. The result? Fancy Fedora.

While I don't play spy at all, at least it'll go well with the two Camera Beards I got on Thursday.

It's amazing how many items you think you have only to find that after combining it into metal, you really didn't have a lot at all.
Amusingly I managed to obtain a pile of scrap metal out of three sandviches. I guess that's all the Soviet Union had to ration back then.
