Converting old maps to "modern hammer"

So I've done a lot of random testing and stuff, Including deleting hammer and a bunch of things that surrounded it, then verifying the game's integrity.
But something that I noticed is that ALL of my maps don't reopen, If I make a new map, close hammer, and reopen hammer, its showing all kinds of random errors. Another thing is that, even thought when I check the file and it says vmf, Hammer says its saving it as a .rmf or .map

What is happening and what did I do!?!

1. So a opened team fortress/bin, and then opened hammer. Then I created a short cut
2. I use this shortcut to open it

So It was in steam/steamapps/common/team fortress/bin

Do you use hammer.exe or hammer.bat?

I usually use the exe, but in testing the batch file, It still didn't load.

Are you using tf2 hammer or tf 1 hammer

Pretty sure .map is the goldsource equivalent to .vmf so that's why I'm asking

Also make sure your settings in hammer don't have any unusual options selected

In goldsource (Half Life 1), the format used by that version of Hammer was .rmf (Rich Map Format). I think that .map was an intermediary format created in the process of compiling.

both .rmf and .map are the only options it gives me

But I made the map cattle before I got the new computer, and hammer. So It was originally a vmf.

Which version of hammer are you using?

Your file branch for TF2 hammer differs from mine:

Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\bin

Notice how the game is "Team Fortress 2" after \common. The filepath you posted had \team fortress\ instead.
Are you using the right version of hammer for TF2?

If rmf is an option and vmf is not, you are definitely using the wrong Hammer for TF2.

So... How do I get the right one. I've deleted and reinstalled hammer many times, so that doesn't work.

Maybe reinstall not just Hammer but TF2 as a whole? I confess that your problem is over my head, but that is what I would try next.

TF2 has been reinstalled, and hammer works like it should, but no maps were able to be saved. Thank you all for your help.
