Talks about the Engineer update a little, the design process around a unlock they didn't end up using (the Repair Node), and links to the [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GNnftq744I"]YouTube- Spy & Pyro[/ame] animated short a fan created.

I think its better to not release the Repair Node. As already Valve stated, it would ruin the game. Engineers need my teleporters and my dispensers, so they need an upgrade that boosts their attack/defense power, but doesn't ruin flaw of the game.

Off-topic: I actually had a dream I was the Engineer last night, it was a bit bizarre.

...

I have no idea how they are going to tackle this. I mean; change the Sentry gun and you change the whole game. Their goal is to make the engy less of a turtling class.

The best way I can think of is to have the ability to make a couple of lvl 1-alike sentries which cannot be upgraded. It would keep the engy on his toes as the sentries would be more of a disposable commodity that he wouldn't have to look after. It would lead to some really strategic mind games and would rely on more surprise rather than being just a dead stop.

I'd honestly like it if they released that node model for someone to fix and use in a map as a prop or something.

Actually, looks a bit like one of those intels from Premuda. Minus the healing.

That model shouldnt be so hard to make, for an experienced modeller i think this isnt more than a few hours of work.

Also, i dont care about the engineer update until they revelaed what that whole portal stuff is about.

As an ex engineer, I can't wait for this update to not come around.

Good luck having balanced feedback for... a few weeks! At least you'll learn about powerful sentry spots in your map.

Destined to be the most boring update in the history of gaming.

RED Side
"Hey guys, we've got 12 sentries up, they're never going to cap our point now, haha"
"..."
"Where are they?"

BLU Side

The only way to really make this update work is to somehow discourage turtleing and get more offensive engineering.

To do this they'd probably have to make the shotgun and pistol seem more offensive and useful to make angineers want to charge forward but maybe at the cost of weaker buildings. What do you guys think?

This logic is even better on Dustbowl or any other attack/defence map.

I like these kinds of blog-posts.

What I'd like to see
  • Unlock-tradeoff between raw firepower and ability to move quickly to set up structures.
  • Sneakier/Faster/Weaker front-line placement structures.
