uhm.. why does the frontpage link to this closed thread ..klick.. ? :p

Because the featured forum is the only forum that gets on the front page splash bannery thing-a-majigger and this thread isn't in the featured forum, so it can't go directly on the front page.

The thread that is on the front page, however, does have a rather large link to this thread in it, which is exactly the same way its been done in the past.

I'm not joining, I would if it had the option of doing a normal CTF.

Payload race is pretty boring tbh. I just think nothing can be done to make it play much differently than pipeline.
Maybe i just can't think of anything right now because i played only one map...

Also i would like to see how will you people balance that A/D CTF gamemode. It seems like A/D CP except much easier to win for BLU.

While I don't find plr boring, I agree on your second point, can't think of anything that would make it play significantly differently, but I hope to be proved wrong.

On an unrelated note : isn't there a risk of griefing with the invade ctf gametype ?
Namely : someone picks up the flag and stays between the setup gates and the respawn, doing nothing 'till blue loses ?...

That's why, by clever design (or common sense), you put the intel outside respawn.

It's as griefable as regular CTF is.

I will forever smack people who shoot down ideas because they are griefable. That's what kicks and bans are for. The majority of people will play properly.

Yip this is all very true, through the playtests I've been at it's all gone very well with no griefing and the only instance one person did just sit there with the flag it was probably because they didnt realise they had it.

This is also true.

I was not "shooting down" the idea, merely, raising a concern. In fact I am planning on working on such a map when I have more time, later this summer.
And also, putting the first flag on the red side of the gates, where it can be stickied and sentried to death didn't sound like the most logical thing to do, if only because of how it used to work in the game that inspired the idea.

Umm... look at dustbowl stage 2's BLU spawn and setup area and take note.

I guess now, it's a good thing that I've had a whole week to plan, rather than just spazzing and trying to map something hideous.

I now have a full layout sketched, plus WIP textures to accompany the theme. I'm going with PLR, by the way.

This has been bothering me lately: * Payload Race (plr_): Minimum of 2 stages

I have a really great idea for my plr map, but it would only work as a single stage level. Now, I really want to enter this contest, as I think I possess enough skill to make a fairly decent map. And I already have a reverse CTF map in the making, so making another one would be boring This requirement really trashes any ideas I formulate. :(

I know it's a longshot to reverse this rule, but there is some promise to the idea. I would love to compare my map to other single stage maps. I'm going out on a limb by going public about this, but I just want to see the best plr map, regardless of how many stages or how many caps or whatever.

BTW, We'd better get acknowledgment of the results, unlike the last few we've been through

Though it's unlikely that I'll be entering the contest, I think setting a stage # requisite unnecessarily limits creativity and for no discernible purpose. I've already sort of mentally committed myself to another project but the 2 state requisite is the chief reason I chose not to get involved in the first place.

Personally I'd like to be able to submit a single stage map, but I appreciate the rules of the contest and the reasons behind them

I may end up doing a single stage map anyway, whether it's eligible or not, no big whoop

Hurm...

Who's up for a publicity poster for the contest, just like this one?

Except it's PAYLOAD RACE vs. ASSAULT CTF... ?

I don't think he meant as a seperate contest; I think he meant he would do it if there was enough interest. Void, DO IT! :O
