Sadly, I only found out about this contest late last week. Now the really sad part is that I work, a lot, especially starting this week. And by a lot I mean 80 hours a week would be on the short side for me. So that means I've got maybe 2 hours a night, over 25 or so days, to try and completely bring a map from alpha to beta/rc status.

Likelihood of success? About as bleak as trying to maintain an active social life on such a schedual

But damnit, I'm going to give it a try anyways.

That being said, here are a few pictures of what I got done tonight. The theme I'm going for is such: A damn in the mountains during a rainy night time setting. Meaning I'm attempting to blend elements of hydro, sawmill, and alpine maps. Hopefully the result is a beautiful and refreshing blend of different visual elements.

Here's to the ol' college try!

I'm shitting my pants with 80% of my map finished... you must be scratching your crack constantly!!!

Luckily Alpine is one of the more natural and quicker themes to execute nicely so hopefully you can get a reasonable amount/standard of work complete in the coming weeks. One of the problems i've been having not using alpine is that there are hardly any props or objects that can be used to cover large spaces, unlike the rocks, trees and horizon cards used in Alpine to fill horizon space.

Good Luck!

Sigh, Spike ran eps 1-3 both last night and tonight, and I have a tv in the room with my computer, so naturally my attention was not on the correct monitor. Still, I got a little bit done. Hoping to have through A done in another 2-3 days, though I'll probably have to come back and make a second detail pass, since right now I'm really only covering architecture. I'm thinking that, if by some divine act, I do manage to get a detailed map to enter, it will hardly be optimized due to time constraints, but oh well.

Grazr: Thankfully I have some experience with what I'm trying to do, fhttp://forums.tf2maps.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=575or example. That really helps.

Bit of an improvement over the last few screen shots, but still plenty of work to be done. I figure once I get past A it will be pretty easy, since it moves in doors, though at the same time that takes away from a lot of the pretty props that get used in an outdoors environment.

Anyways..the contest ends when? The 25th (or in my case the 24th) you say? Hmm...*cough**cough**extension**cough*. Sorry, been outside all day in a dustbowl.

Are both of those "missing texture" areas water (lacking cubemaps)?

If so, you might have a bit of an issue due to the "there may be only one water level height in a Possible Visible Set if the water is expensive. "

You learn something new each day. Didn't even think of looking at the different skins for those windows, especially the tall ones.

I should probably make a few of the smaller windows yellow as well, reflecting that they are lit from the inside.

Sigh, so according to steam, in the last 2 weeks I have only spent 7.1 hours in any video game, which would include time in hammer and then tf2 overlap. What I'm getting at is that this hasn't moved much beyond the above shots, and I really didn't have time from the get go (well, when I found out about it anyways). I do like the theme, and I think its something I'll have to try in the future, as well as keeping some of those buildings around. Best of luck to all the other (complete) entries!
