What was the first game you started mapping for?

@Selentic: DAMN THAT MAP IS FINE. Although it looks massive.

Thanks!

On reflection though it was a real waste of time, my first map for this game has gotten more playtime (In alpha 4, christ) than that ever did, of course, the modeling experience was worth something.

C&C, the oldschool ones with the hidden map editors. I never did much on them though.

First 3D game would be Timesplitters 2. Technically it wasn't map making, more sticking map chunks together, but I loved it so much.
Ive messed around in UnrealEd and the Morrowind Editor but sucked with them.
So yeah, TF2 is the first game i've properly mapped for, I just love the art style and all how Hammer works.

I'd say Time Splitters 2. I had that a while back and I recall it having a pretty powerful level editor.

If that doesn't work, then hl1

I think LEGO counts :p
Second was Timesplitters 2, I loved doodlig ideas for maps in my school books and then rushing home to make them, and playing them with my (unimpressed) friends, but I always thought: "How come I can't use all the stuff that the devs used?"
And then along came tf2...

Half-Life. If you guys are counting 2D editors like an RTS has... then I'm going to have to go even old-school-er and say board games. I made my very own expansion pack for Clue. It had an extra board with more rooms and cards to go with it. :p

I never mapped a 3d game before tf2 little rooms...
But I made plenty of 2d platform maps for other games

Technically my first level design was for my own games which I was working on.

For first external, it was Jumper II (old Game Maker Game)

First commercial game level design was Warcraft III

First true 3d design was a game called SapphireTears, where level design was part of the gameplay. I had created a fast load map called River Wars, which was a basic 2 base system with a flag in the back parts where you would run across 1 of 3 bridges to get to the enemy base. It was also probably the most successful custom map in the entire game's history. Freebuild then Fight was still more popular though.

Then I went to TF2.

Half-Life. I still remember the time I made a small DM map on my crappy laptop in the back of my dad's old van when I was 13.

I started with Half-life. Ah, I remember the days of my castle DM map and my zombie survival map...... then my PC died and I lost them :(
