Something that has always bothered me while making the base of my maps is the dev texture. I know that it's good to use while making the structure. It's easy to remove and add, but something has been bothering me so much i almost gave up my mapping entirely.
In many, many videos of mapping tutorials they show off their alpha versions of maps. These start out as chunks of dev texture. Though, something nobody seems to have an answer to. How to texture one surface of a world geometry?? Nobody has an answer to this! I need an answer! It makes maps look so much better!
Take a look.

This is what i want to replicate. (the rooftops, specifically) The top surface of these world geometries are textured gray, whilst the rest are red. And no. I am quite sure that there aren't any thin layers of WG above the base ones.
Sorry if i sound confusing, but i have literally no idea how to approach this question.. It bugs me to oblivion.
