I just realized that a community moderation period along the lines of greenlight, but strictly for examining copyright infringement, before a mod unlocks paid downloads, would be a reasonable idea to test out. Someone write an email to valve!

They're probably so swamped right now that Gabe has had to break his policy and just clear his inbox without reading any of it.

I also think Valve needs to hire more people to deal with the community things. But I think you're underestimating the amount of content submitted to the workshop. Valve would need to hire lots of workers for all the workshops. And this wouldn't be beneficial at all, money-wise.

I think that the workshop needs to stay for free (A donation box might be a good addition but that's it). And Valve why won't you bring the tf2 map workshop at last?

The workshop is staying free. It's not going anywhere. This topic is an entirely different system.

It's clear that they do want to provide some method of compensation for mod makers. But specifically one that they can profit from, or at least use to offset the no-doubt considerable expense of running the workshop. The idea is undoubtedly being revisited as we speak, and if I thought for a minute my message wouldn't just get lost in the pile, I'd gladly forward them the post I made the other day.
