Yeah, that's because there's a skybox brush there to prevent demos from shooting grenades to the last point from the other side of the building. I need to get rid of the tower completely to fix that

You can put an invisible brush there to block projectiles and keep the line of sight to the tower.

Or you could make the tower in the skybox, but that might be kind of a bitch.

First thing you need to slapped for skipping "alpha" numbers and pulling a gimmicky numbering trick straight out of the Resident Evil School of Sequel Numbering...

... That said, this map has came a long, long way. It's quite enjoyable right now, and IMO, the only thing that needs a fix is the final point, bit too camp friendly. Tweak that and you can move on to beta IMO.

Its very good indeed I quite liked it, my only gripe with it is, as a heavy towards the last couple of caps, you spend most of the time running around if you don't have an engineer on the team :blushing:

Like quoted, unless you have several medics the last cap can be abit tricky If there's alot of engineers other than that looking forward to the next update.

PS. Abit late I know, but I'm here now :O

...Or not.
Lately I've been wanting to just quit. I'm completely out of ideas or inspiration. I try fixing the last 2 points, they continue to be sucky, I feel that the only way to make them better is to start from scratch, and there's no time for that anymore. So yeah, if I won't get my inspiration back soon, i'm going to quit the contest. And I'm never going to work on this map again. I've reached the point where I can no longer stand the constant stress over this map.

Relax. You were doing well.

I know the feeling. "Map's fubar! FFFFFFFFF". It never is. The last version we tested was almost perfect. Try opening a couple of windows on the last point to give snipers a better chance to clear the point of sentries, or add another door, and that's all.

It's not all bad that the last point is a bit camp friendly. It is, after all, red team's last stand. Look at official Valve maps, they're all way more camp friendly.

Quitting at this point would be like climbing around 7kms of Mount Everest then quitting on the last peak.

Please don't quit, Jonah. if you really cannot think of much to do to change, just submit the map as it is. Snowdrift may not be as highly enjoyed as Vector or Haarp, but it's a good map to many people.

Just try some small changes. Like the sniper thing Cali suggested, or maybe just move the rocket over a bit so I can't rocket jump and land on the point. Get some _test# versions, and run a quick test. You've got 17 days - you can do something in that time.

I love your take on the push ctf HUD and the cap point's sinking into the ground is awesome and win. (I might need those models in the future, btw :D).

Also - don't give in! I've many a wall in my mapping past and know how running out of inspiration feels. As has been said, just start running some _test# versions with little tweaks and something will hit you. Even if you don't get an earth-shattering revelation, the layout seems fully-submittable, frankly.

Calm down coward! This is a great map and you shouldn't give up. Take a few days off and don't open Hammer at all. Constantly going back to it will only add fuel to the fire.

Thanks everybody.
Since I've been working on this for so long, I'll continue at least until the end of the contest. I'm uploading a new test version right now with blocking and some other changes, and I'll submit it for wednesday.

I was planning on doing a final sweep on all the contest maps before the end of the contest. If you've seen what I've done in other detailed maps, I go through a map on my own and find any rocket jump exploits, playerclip fails, displacement fails, misaligned props, weird lighting, etc. and provide screenshots of it all.

I was planning on doing it as soon as a new version of your map was released, but now that I notice there are only 15 days left, I didn't want to find out that a map was updated, go through it, and then find out that since there are only x days left, a new version wouldn't be submitted to the contest, thus my work not as useful as it could be (that is, I'm implying that you will finish your map even after the contest).

So message me on Steam (my name is littleedge), find me in the chat (between 3 and 9 pm ET), pm me here, or reply in this thread if you want me to go through your map in the current version, or do it in your next version. Or if you don't want me to go through it at all, and anything i come upon in a Gameday is enough.

Snowdrift will be one of the last I do. I've gone through Snowdrift multiple times before, and I think I found nearly all I can. If I have time after I do the others, I'll jump in and see if there's anymore that I can find.

No complaints apart from the obvious lack of textures on the snow corner models.

Haven't played this for a while, but got a chance to last night during the EU gameday. I was quite pleased with the progress, the final point was definitely a huge improvement on previously.

Right now, I don't recall any major gameplay issues, the only real problem as Psy said was the missing textures, the map itself plays very nicely and is overall quite balanced!

Good work!

PS: I think just about every map last night managed to reward me with a somewhat humourous screenshot, I only took one screenshot from this map but I quite liked it:

See. Totally worth not ditching it.

Perfect, don't touch it. Fix whatever visual glitches there may be, touch up whatever details you feel the need to, pack it up and submit it. This one is done.
