Wow, banning people for that is just noobish.

Curse Valve for dividing the community more. I agree what they did was right, but they did it the wrong way.

I finally just got a halo but I don't wear it. Personally, I like the original models and skins the way there are. No need for a corny hat in my book. I think the idea behind it was good but how they went about doing it was pathetic. I think they should have just added enhancements to the existing hats or skin changes for each class. For example, the pyro could have gotten a special looking tank on his back or the Heavy getting some tattoos. Most of the hats I find totally silly.

I dunno about you but whenever someone actually found a hat in-game more often than not he'd get banned by jealous mods. And this happened pretty frequently on a variety of servers, I should mention.

This whole debacle has really brought out how incredibly immature TF2 players are on every aspect. I have my opinions, sure, but at this point who cares, what's done is done, I don't like HOW it was done but whatever. I'm just incredibly angry with how obnoxious both ends of the argument are handling this and I wish Valve had done something to make this argument not have to happen. It's pretty convenient that school starts up and I get a job just as I begin to start disliking many things about this game!

I think the main issue here is that Valve spend a hell of a lot of time hyping them up (downright saying those without hats were inferior, albiet jokingly, yet repeatedly) and then used a system ensuring only a tiny majority could get them, effectively doing everything they could to produce a culture of elitism. Banning due to hats is absolutely shameful of course, but people do shameful things when they think they have an authority backing them up and others can't help but respond in kind.

Of course they could just make the hats available to everyone along with all the unlockable weapons and shut people up for good, but what do I know? I'm not a game designer

If someone banned me from a server because I don't have a halo, I'd just be glad they showed me the way out instantly, instead of letting me explore, find out it's crap and then click disconnect myself. Saves some time.

As someone who lost three hats, I have no problem with what Valve did aside from the fact that I think they could have spent their time doing much better things for the game, though some of that is obviously based off my hatred of the drop system.

Banning people for halo/non-halos is stupid, immature, ect. The idea of in-game racism is fascinating, though. I wouldn't mind it if it was playful.

As for all this "well good, it was a bad server then," crap, chances are your favorite server has one dick with power that you're willing to ignore. Don't take this as me justifying this behavior, I'm not, but everyone is a bit....hysterical right now, if you really think you're the bigger man (and everyone on the internet does), you'll take that into consideration.

Its just a hat! why would anyone do these things? just because you have a hat dosnt mean your better than anyone else, it sometimes ticks me off for someone having the halo, but i quickly got around that. -with a invisible halo mod, but whatever-
Also, they should of given the idlers devil horns.

I like the idea of the horns...

a lot of people didn't even get anything useful from the idler and then watched everyone else around them get a free hat, probably out of shere ignorance of the fact the idler even existed.

Right now it's really hurting the TF2 community, everytime i join a server there's someone bitching or vote kicking for the presence or lack of a halo.

Personally i did get a hat and then subsequently had it removed. this doesn't bother me, but i do feel kinda cheated that others have been given a hat for basically the shere hell of it. Most people i see in game don't know what the "deal" is with these halo's and have to explain to them why they exist. Then instantly "LOLZ, i win" and proceed to gloat to the server until they do eventually leave. So it's not like they chose not to use it in anticipation of this, simply that they wern't aware of this program that allowed you to idle in a ghost TF2 server to farm drops. I also think it's cheap that Drunken F00l gets a community commendation whilst everyone else gets a slap on the wrist and most of their items deleted.

But it's just annoying seeing all this hate over essentially nothing. Valve really started a whirl pool on this one. I'm not biased to either side of the court on this. But it was a dick move.
