a little bit of context: I have a really bad computer and I use an external harddrive to actually do anything.

anyways, I was working on a map and I hadn't saved yet, my terrible computer started doing a thing it does a lot and start disconnecting the harddrive repeatedly (making the unplugging noise of the drive) and I panicked and started spamming save. I fix the issue and open the map back up and everything's missing. is there any way to revert it to its last save? I'm also pretty new to mapping (made a few maps and watched a bunch of tutorials, never posted any of it).

I've been working on this map for a couple days so it would really suck if I had to restart everything. any sort of help would be greatly appreciated.

do you have a .vmx file? if so, rename the file exrention back to .vmf and check if it's there. If not, if you have a .bsp of the map you can use a decompiler to get a vmf of the map file, albeit with some minor errors you would need to fix by hand

I have both the .vmx and the .bsp for it but the .bsp file is really outdated (before I even had the first spawn), I'll try the .vmx thing and see if it works.

edit: it worked, thank you :)
