Mazie - A simple koth map that's a bit small.

This is the first map I have made and I'm mostly just trying to get a feel for hammer and map making.

It is a simple and small koth map (small because I didn't want to take on too big of a project to start). It is meant to resemble a sort of hedge maze you would find in a massive fantasy mansion, but due to the small size of my map, it was a bit harder to incorporate.

If you have any advice or feedback for this map (plus tips and tricks) I would absolutely love to hear them as I want to keep getting better as a mapmaker. I don't care if your harsh or not, I just wish that you would be honest so that I can learn from my mistakes.

I tried to leave some feedback on the feedback website but it got cut off for being too long, so I'm writing it here.

Generally speaking, walls you can jump on top of should not be used for defining anything major in a layout. You want walls and buildings that go the full height to the sky (i.e. with invisible clipping) to separate distinct routes, otherwise you are inviting jumping classes (soldier, demo, some other classes when they get creative) to jump around the map in unpredictable ways and really annoy everyone else.

Thin, jumpable walls are fine when used as light cover within a larger space, like bits of cover on a control point (think Lakeside mid).

I am not suggesting that you simply clip the walls of your map to the sky, as this map is way too small to function as much more than a meat grinder. However, I hope this helps explain part of why a hedge maze is generally not a good idea for a layout.

If you want to read more about what goes into making a good TF2 map, I would suggest picking a few articles out from this list. The articles written by Grazr in particular are really good starting points for learning how layouts work.

Thank you very much for the articles, and for the map, it was mostly just me trying to learn more about how maps work and I'm probably going to work on something bigger.
