Limited View Range in Hammer?

So I'm extremely new to this, I tried out hammer a few months ago and recently picked it back up, but i dont remember this view clipping being a thing, at least not over so small a range.

The brush is only 1024x1024. Is this a thing I'll just have to deal with? It doesn't seem to be an issue in Crash's map tutorial but maybe things have changed.

on your key board press '1' for decreasing viewport render range and '2' for extending it
