How can i make this look better?

    I'm currently working on my first map and i've started applying materials to stuff and i'm not happy with the look of the bars. How can i make them better?

    Possibly make the posts narrower and rotate the texture 90 degrees so that the wood grains run up and down the post? Also you could group four posts together as upward does like the posts to the right of the win conditions box

    See this tool :faceedittool: on the side? That's the texture application tool, and you can use it to rotate and scale textures and apply different textures to each face of a brush individually.

    Make those wooden brushes 16hu (hammer units) wide and rotate the vertical post's textures 90 degrees
    I also say you should make that platform a func_detail too if you haven't already

    Did that, looks a bit better now.
    What are the advantages of turning the platform into a func_detail?

    func_detail, unlike normal brushes, does not cut visleafs, so it compiles quicker, among other things. It is explained here better than I can explain it.

    well Its not just this detail here, you need the texture tool for almost every corner of your map to make things look good

    seeing as at one point I selected everything in ctf_urbanbrook, set it to nodraw, and then retexturesd it all.

    yes, every visible face on my map was touched by the face-texture tool
