    well, this is pretty much my first attempt at mapping so dont be too harsh with me.
    obviously i dont expect to win, i just wanted to get started with mapping and had some fun doing so.

    so here is my first map ever published to the world. :p

    I wouldn't have really said this was "your first map". You've only textured the DEV geometry Valve left us with without adding or removing any props, lights or brush work.

    Yeah, I'm going out on a wing here, but I don't think a contest is where you should begin mapping. Mapping is something you do because you like it.

    You should make at least 5-6 maps before participating in a contest.

    I also think that this is a great place to learn how to use Hammer because most the work is done for you. You can play with props, textures and interesting geometry all without worrying about what works for the map because it's been tested. In fact, I learned how to use Hammer from the vmf for this just like this guy -- the difference is I turned around and made a koth map instead of entering something I knew I wouldn't win.

    That's bullshit, experience is always good, and the constraints/restrictions of a contest is a great way to learn.
