I never ever buy games on release and I've never payed $60 for a game, but I would hand over $60 for Overwatch in the blink of an eye. I suspect it will be free to play when it finally releases, although that could lead to issues with hackers.

As much as it's bothered me how much complexity Valve has added to TF2 over the years, potentially intimidating to would-be new players, I think fundamentally the game is still very much the same and new players don't really need to know about every single weapon unlock in order to play. With the exception of a handful of new weapon categories — flare guns, bows, charging shields — most of what they're up against is just slightly different versions of the same basic weapon types, with no particularly novel strategies for not getting killed by them.

In contrast, adding new entire classes is likely to dramatically affect what new players need to know going in. Nine is already straining the boundaries of information overload; I can't imagine what 18 will mean for people.

Think from buisness POV. Valve made tf2 f2p because of microtransactions. Overwatch has no microtransactions so its HIGHLY unlikelt to ever be f2p.

Are you 100% sure about that? They said that new heroes would be coming later, and I HIGHILY doubt they will not charge for that like HOTS.

I just read a recent interview where they said they were still weighing all the options, including f2p. To me that says they have a plan in place where they would expect to make money. They do it quite well in Hearthstone and HOTS already, and it has to compete with TF2, CS:GO, and all console shooters. Blizzard isn't stupid. I think it almost has to be f2p.

just because there arent microtransactions yet doesnt mean there wont be. it is still in beta rn. i know if they added hero skins ala LoL or something like dota or tf2 cosmetics id probably be inclined to waste a lotta cash there personally.

im pretty excited, regardless of the fact i probably dont have a computer that could run it. pharah is cute as hell, thats all i really need. i think itd be cool if community mapping for overwatch became a thing, though im pretty sure it wont. girl can dream anyways

Well it's quite awesome tbh, I still need more hours to understand every classes but it's really easy to play even when you're starting out.

Update: Blizzard has responded to our request for comment, suggesting we stay tuned tomorrow for the Blizzcon opening ceremony. "We are excited to share more information about Overwatch with everyone at BlizzCon this weekend - so be sure to tune in to the opening ceremonies for free at www.BlizzCon.com," a representative told us via email. We'll have more information tomorrow during the presentation, which is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Pacific / 2 p.m. Eastern.

Excited for the announcement. Call me crazy, but I'm slightly glad the game isn't coming out as F2P: The paid/F2P transition worked well enough for TF2, and Blizzard won't have to focus on stuffing in paid content right from the beginning.

I bet the people who buy it on console are going to feel real sorry when it ends up unsupported.

Diablo 3, Blizzard's only other console game has been well supported from what I hear.
