making this cp will make it as unpopular as hydro

I disagree, hydro is not a bad map, it just requires alot of teamwork off the start, otherwise its very easy to get destroyed. Most people are unable or unwilling to do this, so hydro starts to get annoying with repeated losses.

ctf in essence does not require teamwork to win. The way the map is now the 2 gametypes kinda balance out to create a more median level of required teamwork.

One thing i noticed was that, unlike hydro, Meridian has a fixed path of stages, unless a stalemate occurs. then mixing it up. The round selection should be random, instead of linear.

Also, there is this one ramp in the "Uber bot" room, that pretty much is borked. I can get a picture if you don't know what I'm talking about.

The replay is excellent, I watched the whole thing and it was pretty useful. I lol'd at it all being in French though, I could only sometimes grasp the meaning of things, haha. Anyway, if you've got overall impressions yourself they're welcome, and thank you for the demo.

My players were quite lost about what to do and where to go.
I think it would help to have more directions and arrows.
They were quite lost about what to do too: the first time, they didn't understand it was a tc/ctf and not tc/cp like hydro (which was the only tc they knew)

The problem is, the first time we played your map, there were what we call "pickup" players (players not from my community) and they rated bad your map, were lost and, that's the main point, were stupid.

The problem will be locating the intel until the hud problem is fixed, but for my community players, they said the map was nice, beautiful, "far cry meets TF2"

If I remember correctly, people die when they fall on the sea, but they expected to swim like in maps like 2fort or any map with water inside.
Maybe you should allow them to swim or add signs saying that the sea is dangerous

Just played on it on canarplus server. (über) I can't say it was warmly welcomed by all players, but I'm totally in love with it. We don't like tc and ctf styled maps so this one was dreaded at first, but it is simply gorgeous, and not so puzzling after a few trys.

Action is intense thanks for the various small corriders and rooms, and we did'nt find ourselves blocked into a boring stalemate (2forts style) even with 3 engies at work defending.

I'll do my best to ensure it'd have a long stay on our servers, until all are convinced :)

Not really a bug, but it's easy to get caught on the knobs of these... so a not-solid prop with a playerclip to fill the hole in the wall might help.

New gallery for the small playtest on my server yesterday, as well as a gallery of eye-candy shots mostly of scenery and details anyone can feel free to use to wow passers by.

@Nineaxis: I've seen dom_ type maps have issues with changing model skins sometimes not switching properly for clients. It's usually on a per-client basis, so one or two players out of the whole server might see a blue sign while everyone else sees the regular red one.

Oh and the rest of the "junk shots" that didn't make the cut into the main gallery are here.

I found this, demomen and soldiers can get up on top of the uberbot, but if they drop the intel up there, it just kinda disappears...

I know that's kind of an odd scenario that probably won't ever happen in true gameplay, but better safe than sorry, I guess.

you could have a nodraw brush inside the robot, so if the intel falls on it, it does not fall through.

I think it's a problem with the collisions model, the collisions are kind of... odd once you get above the base.

Also, there is a set of stairs on the base, but you can't walk up them. That could confuse some people.

Don't worry if the heatmap is void, our stats have just been resetted. I still have to give it a second try, tough.

well thanks for joining so fast ;) when you finish the map, i'll do another playtest for sure. The only problem is still the enormous size, 45mb bz2 is a reason to DC for many players... You should talk to VALVe, maybe you get it into an unlock pack :D

Yeah i've pretty much had to halt on making more models and art due to size limitations and apparently FPS issues. I was pretty dissapointed to learn we had to reduce texture size and shader properties on alot of the models to fit our budget. Talking to valve is something i've considered for some time. Whether or not that happens is really up to Shmitz at this point.

The majority of custom maps out there are fairly generic and I feel the majority of most TF2 players stry away from them. Considering the amount of effort Shmitz and I put into creating this(new theme, custom art, new gametype, ect) I would hate to see it become "just another" custom map that doesnt get played.

Just wanted to post here and say this is probably one of the best maps I have ever seen in my entire life. Shmitz, when you have a new version, please let me know. We have played this on the F7Lans Custom Maps server and everyone loves it and wants more!
