Anyone here try any comp Overwatch? Season 2 just started, and while I didn't mess at all with the previous season (think it was mostly or completely over by the time I started playing), I'm thinking about trying it just to see how it all works.

Huh. I was hoping it'd be better than quickplay if only because of the class limits. So tired of going up against the "all Reinhardt" or "all Mei" or "2x Torbjorn, 2x Bastion + 2x Mercies on the Bastions" teams.

How do the placement matches actually work? Considering my quickplay win ratio is an absymal 50%, I shudder to think how badly I'll be placed if I solo queue in comp.

Placement matches can be very steamrolly because it doesn't seem to match you by any particular criteria.

Once you finish placement matches, you start fighting teams that are ostensibly your own skill level.

Granted, Competitive is srsbsns, so you can't get away with some of the silly tactics that work on QuickPlay.

So this new Halloween brawl released today is pretty neat, and quite fun.

Takes place on a small section of Eichenwalde, at the bridge near the gate. The death pits are filled with water and traversible. You can only play as Ana, Hanzo, McCree, or Soldier: 76 and fight as a group of x4 against a horde of zombie omnics and mini-bosses.

They present the whole thing as a story, with a Reinhardt voice over throughout that adapts to who does what. If for example a McCree kills one of the bosses, Reinhardt will include that in his story. There are mini-cut scenes when new mini-bosses appear, and it's all pretty slickly packaged.

There's some clear inspiration from TF2 Halloween events, and it's hard not to draw a comparison to L4D (or possibly even MvM) because of the 4vHorde mode.

The new arcade modes are awesome, I've had sooo much fun playing these 3v3 and 1v1 matches. It's always fun to try new characters in the 1v1s and the layouts of the maps are certainly inspiring to me! Too bad it's hard to get in the PTR right now. Also, Sombra is sweet, she is everything I wanted in the character.

Sombra is going to shake up the meta pretty hard. She's basically a counter to the top three hero picks in comp (Zarya, Rein, Lucio) and herself soft countered by heroes with lower pick rates (Winston, Soldier, Hanzo, Widowmaker). The way she counters Lucio though is borderline cruel, heh. "Let's break it dooown!" Nope. "Lights out!" Canceled.

She is immensely fun to play though, just from her mobility. I've only been able to play her in custom games with bots so far... Arcade is basically 6v6 Sombra atm which is kinda dumb, and the other modes with 1 hero limits, people just leave the game if they can't pick Sombra. Looking forward to seeing how she actually performs with and against real players.

[Edit] Apparently Soldier is not necessarily a counter to Sombra, as his tactical visor doesn't track an invisible Sombra. Thought Tim Ford (OW Dev) mentioned that it would track her during Stylosa's Blizzcon stream, so I guess I was wrong.

There's no doubt she's a VERY interesting character. I'm going to like playing her a lot. I play mostly reaper and Mei (6 hours in each compared to every other character's 2 or 3 hours) and she is definitely an addition to my Arsenal with the combination of DPS and team utility. Like you said, it changes everything!

I don't understand why people love the Mystery Heros brawl. It's pretty much the epitome of who gets lucky first. Just got stuck as 3 Mercies, then 3 Sombras, then 2 Symms + 2 Widows vs a team with 2 roadhogs, a Winston and a junkrat, none of which died.

It'd be a lot better if you couldn't get duplicate picks.

I mean, to be clear, it's okay but frankly I think even QP is better by far.

Imo, quick play is better provided you go into the game not caring which hero you play.

Mystery Heroes is... meh.

I feel like they had to fill the menu square that event brawls would normally take and they thought Mystery Brawl was the most popular of the non-event brawls.
