Hammer searching for Gameinfo.txt on wrong drive

Just moved TF2 to my secondary drive as the first was filling up. To be honest i thought i did this with all my games years ago, but must have missed TF2 for what ever reason.

Anyway, steam knows it's on my second HDD, i went through that syncing process and TF2 runs fine, but Hammer insists on looking for the gameinfo.txt's original C drive location. Is there a file i need to manually update, like a config file to edit and point Hammer in the right direction? I can't seem to find one at first glance.

This is just a wild guess, but maybe you could try expanding this file path in Tools > Options so it points to the new location instead of just relying on $SteamUserDir?

The tools don't like TF2 being on another drive. I suggest moving it back and moving other stuff to the new drive. I think first of all you have to move it back to fix the file paths in Hammer, and second of all, it causes issues with a bunch of 3rd party tools. Leminnes just struggled to get VBCT working with a similar setup.

The only other thing I can think to check is the paths in GameConfig.txt, so if that doesn't help then tyler's probably right.

Well then don't just brag about it, tell grazr how to get it working.

my point is i dont think a different drive is to blame, i didn't have to do anything special to get it working, perhaps something in the gamefiles didn't move across properly. I guess you tried validating the game files already Grazr?

Did you always have TF2 set up on the external drive? Maybe that's why, because when you set up Hammer it automatically figured that out and did what it needed. In which case the answer would be to just reinstall Hammer, I hope?

I don't think i did no, although when i moved across i probably did a full uninstall/ reinstall, so reinstalling the tools probably is his best bet

Try to delete Hammer and Steam games settings from Windows Registry, for instance (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Hammer). I had the same issue and it helped to me.

Well that's what I was asking, which config i need to manually edit because at first glance i couldn't see one, but it turns out I was just being impatient due to tiredness and completely missed the config file because my eyes were bleeding from staring at the bright white screen. I found it and redirected all the directories to the new drive and all works fine.

In the old days just running the game would override the config files for you and when that didn't work i was like "well, crud. Now i gotta go hunting".

Next time i'll just get a proper nights sleep, ha ha.

I was having a very similar issue mostly related to compiling.

There's just so many things that get weird when you move TF2 to a separate drive than Steam itself. I just gave up and move TF2 back to my C Drive. It's okay, though, having it all on my SSD has been nice with loading times and such haha.
