Reason being is I cannot help but ask a question with a probably so obvious answer. I must have Half-Life 2: Episode 2 to download custom maps, correct?

Hello everyone! I didn't want to make a whole new thread for this simple question, so I decided I should just say it while I can still announce myself. I'm glad I found this place so that I can finally use the maps here to make my boring dedicated server more interesting! Thanks to all you who created the maps I am soon to download! So it's nice to be here and hello once again. I am WarpXR (In case, for some reason, you didn't read who started this thread).

Well, if you want to make custom maps for TF2, you need TF2, so if you want custom maps for HL2 I wouldn't see you should need HL2/ep1/ep2.

Also, welcome.
Well, when I want to download a TF2 map, it says
"Setup file 'gameinfo.txt' doesn't exist in subdirectory 'hl2'
Check your -game parameter or VCONFIG setting."
And I keep hearing I need some Half-Life game, I don't know. All I know is I can't download any maps for TF2.

hello. welcome.

same but more specific: drop the .bsp file (the map) into 'C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\username\team fortress 2\tf\maps' -- where 'username' is your steam username. then run TF2 and you should find it there, ready to play (i.e. if you press 'create server' it'll be in the list)

Something else you can do, is go and enable the developer console (should be in adv. options)

when its open, (click the ~ key), type map "Then file name here"

For example, if I put in tf/maps folder a map called cp_billybob_b2.bsp, what I would type into console is:

map cp_billybob_b2

click enter, and it will take a second, but it will open the map for you.

(same thing)

Only on a US keyboard. These are different keys on an EU keybaord. "~" is next to "Enter" on the right.

~ is alt + 2 on my keyboard, there's simply no key directly bound to this, and somehow the key that is located at the right position (²) doesn't work in Source (used to work fine on other quake-based engines like goldsource, CoD1 and Q3 for example), you have to rebind it to make the console work...

Point being, there's no such thing as a EU keyboard, every country makes their own keyboard because fuck conformism and compatibility issues or something... :p
