Speaking of mapping music, i learn a valuable lesson today.

Much as i love MSPA, i prefer Doctor Who soundtrack over MSPA soundtrack any day.
Everyone should try doing that least once, do speed mapping and have doctor forever on background, it is like trying to save world by mapping.

I learned that path_tracks are the killer of souls.
I learned that if you want a brush in your map, you have to bury the paint-pot it's glued to in a sand displacement.
I learned that subdivide is Carve for posh people, and i am a posh person deep in my dark soul.
I learned that an hour and a half is, apparently, not enough time to compile, check and pak a single, small, map.

Ooh, also:

I learned to detail a map (kinda first time detailing).
I learned how little I really know about different models in TF2.
I learned how hard it is to me map without first sketching my ideas.

Hopefully the map plays well and everything works. Tomorrow I will be editing my time lapse video of me mapping this.

I learnt that PLR is a complete mess to set up.

I learnt that
  • A certain copypasta method for wall beams makes it so much faster once you've done the first room.
  • Angles are still fun to work with, had 1:1 1:2 and 1:4 in there.
  • I should have used hard edge more
  • Bots work with payload
  • Kill triggers need to have clients checked to work
  • Supermassive satellite dishes suck in superstars
  • I have an unhealthy obsession with keyframe_ropes

I learned that I should be efficient and have a plan. Being polite is apparently not the way to finish maps in 72 hours.

I got to polish this map, wish I hadn't gone sleep yesterday.
Might actually manage to fix and compile it over 12 hours instead of 5.

I learned that 72 hour contests will strip you of all sanity you may have, deprive you of sleep, and turn you into an antisocial cave troll.

You know what, it was worth it.

Great contest everyone, I had a ton of fun.

I give my thanks to Leminnes for compiling my map.
And to Muffin.
And to a dead VRAD process, that made me waste 5 hours.

I released a map in dev textures. I participated in a contest.

Do you know how many maps I've made that I said I'd release in dev textures? So many. Do you know how many contests I've told myself I'd participate in? So many.

I don't care if my map was rushed and kinda bad. I succeeded. I win this contest.

forgive the utter noob here, but am i allowed to vote for my own map? or even vote at all (as an entrant)?

[edit: not that i necessarily would vote for my own map..... just hypothetically, like]
