Why are you guys saying Gatehouse? It's beautiful detailing, but did he do anything to not make it a grid? I feel like the featured map ought to play well in addition to looking well. Maybe this is better said in the voting thread.

Anyway, Boundary, Hardhat & Antiquity.

It brought medieval mode into grid, looked damn good and is for now most fun we had with medieval mode in ages. Not to mention, detailing is big part of mapping, if featured maps would be all about gameplay we would have featured maps section filled with dev textured and unfinished work, taking spot from maps that not only play well, look good, making people hard work of optimization and detailing wasted.

Also, it would promote some people make orange maps that play well and look like shit. (And we hate orange maps)

Done.

And I'm not sure what new maps were released, I know (if these are monthly) next month we'll be doing the contest maps probably. But for this month may (pun intented) I suggest Arakawa, Teddy and Dolaris's grid (Couldn't think of a third)...

EDIT: I nominated teddy because (to my knowledge) its the only "release content" contest map.

Can we not vote "fun" maps into our featured section? Unless it's a fully functional game mode un-prone to griefing. We're supposed to promote gameplay as much as aesthetic and as fun as grid is for less than 15 minutes... it's not something TF2maps should really be promoting.

I'm also concerned that gatehouse hasn't even been tested properly, it suddenly appears in beta form with no balancing and has aesthetic bugs all over the place. So again, we should be promoting maps the community has already tested and been a part of its development; the featured maps section should be like TF2maps seal of approval. You wouldn't approve anything in your name if you hadn't checked to make sure it works properly first, otherwise you make a fool of yourself.

I wanna vote for arena_light house but i can't remember if it was already highlighted. Do we have a list of previously highlighted maps? If not, we should get one.

In opinion medieval version of gird is fun for far longer than just 15 minutes and it was tested for bugs and other stuff many times when it won the grid artpass, those changes it felt when going to beta and changed it's name to Gatehouse fix those minor gameplay and bug issues there were.

So why not? I found it really fun and decided to vote for it, that is the point of whole thread.

I see where grazr is coming from and I see what Wilson is saying...

I think the issue arises because we don't have a really solid set of guidelines of what maps can be considered "featurable," we're just going off of what we want to show off as one of the best (maybe the best) mapping TF2 communities... So i'm not sure were that leaves us with the gatehouse feature. Personally, I think it'd be okay to post, even though its a non-generic gameplay mode, it is still detailed quite well. And, if I remember correctly, medieval mode version was loads of fun.

We don't have to be Serious mappers all the time, whenever a really done "non-stock gametype" map comes out (I avoid using the word fun because that brings on connotations of surf maps and other poorly done maps), we can still play it and have fun.

So i'm not sure were that leaves us with the gatehouse feature..

We already had Mirrored Valve maps on feature list and it did nothing to us, if people dislike what has been featured they can just easily ignore it and look at other featured maps on the list or wait for new one.

If anything, it shows we are willing to welcome something unusual and new.

See, thats iffy. We do accept new and usual, but we don't at the same time... for example, we like grid, but we tore quakeman a new one with all his finalways. Both were "new and unusual"...

I don't know. I guess the only difference between the two was how well they were executed... So, to feature a "new and unusual" it would have to well executed.

The whole point of grid was that it was a joke. Whether it was nicely detailed or not the gameplay is basic and repetative. The mirrored Valve maps were at least innovative. Grid is fun for about 15 minutes and medi-evil mode even less. OK, that's my opinion, but i don't enjoy arena yet i'd still easily vote arena_lighthouse into a feature position because i can appreciate that it's a quality map that is balanced and beautiful and will be accepted into arena and broader TF2 communities.

That is the difference.

Hey, i do that too, expect replace lighthouse with Gatehouse.

So what is the difference in the end? We have different opinions, and i doubt we should start disqualifying maps because people opinions differ, otherwise we would never even have these lists.

I agree with grazr about Gatehouse.

I say do a in-dev contest map feature this month and pick some favorites. Slush would be one. We might wanna do 5 or 6 maps though to make it clear we aren't choosing winners ahead of time :v
