I personally kind of like the dark theme. It'll be more pleasant to browse late at night with the lights off. Which is something I do. A lot. I don't like what it did to the emoticons (we're gonna need new ones now, I guess), and what's with these 1998-style post icons? If you're interested in someone making new emotes, let me know. I've got a set I never released anywhere.

Most signatures usually do not add to page length/clutter due to the average post length being so short compared the height required by username and group banner and title and 150 pixel avatars and five rows of infotext.

Those five rows used to not be as tall. I think that's my biggest complaint: they're stretching the posts a good deal and creating a lot of whitespace. Well, brownspace. You know what I mean.

it doesn't fit in my antique 1024x768
and simply prefered the old one, warm and clear now it's FPS banana...

I could be wrong, being as my monitor is 1280 wide and I just had my window unmaximized (to fit the sidebar gadgets in), but I don't recall the old theme being less than 1024 either.

I want to agree with everyone that dislikes dark forums. It's too similar to FPSBanana (a joke of a website), it reminds me of really bad forums, and it's not actually easier to read at night if you adjust your monitor either manually or with flux.

I appreciate that a lot of work went into this but I'd really like the option to go back to the old one if possible.

And for the record, I'm the kind of person that typically loves new redesigns and tells other people to shut up and get used to it. But dark forums and dark websites in general are something that I think needs to go away.

reminds me of spuf, but with some bright colors with huge contrast to the dark layout thrown in.

I really like all the new icons/buttons/etc. but I can't say I'm a fan of the darker color scheme. I miss the more welcoming white and orange :(

I love the featured maps. I've been hoping for something like this ever since nine and YM made Furnace a featured item. It'll really help with getting higher quality maps more publicity.

Also I really don't like having to click to see the sigs. It kind of ruins using it to link to maps.

I should probably talk to DrP about making the style chooser available for all.
Maybe make it exclusive, I know there are people that don't have a lot of money, I am one of them. But to show a little bit of support for a website I love it why I donate, I'll sacrifice getting some fast food here or there to make sure this website stay up and running. If people really want to change the theme that bad, then it'll give them one more reason to chip in.

I don't find these forums at all hard to read. Everyone who has trouble must already have bad eyes or is complaining just cause they don't like change. Grant it the normal business professional website is light colored backgrounds with dark text. But for a gaming website it can go either way. I believe the artist did a great job with the layout and and should not be criticized for what he has done. All the smileys and icons look great, if you are seeing crappy looking ones make sure you 'ctrl+f5' to do a hard refresh and everything should look great. You may have to continue to do that every day as they fix things.

I went and checked out FPSB and it looks nothing at all like this site. This one seems much more organized and while yes they both have dark colored themes that is the only think that seems the least bit similar about them. As with every new website somethings will need to be fixed and people will need time to get used to and adjust to it. It's really not that bad, but as it always goes, most people hate change. That's why when something happens and your not ready for it you get upset, cause something changed and you weren't ready.

Anywho, enough of my babbling, I credit DrP and the graphics author for their great job in setting this up. It seems much more professional and has a great theme going for it. The dark colors do NOT drag down any happy spirits, the people in the community are what make it a happy environment here. We could have the happiest layout ever but if everyone is a troll then the spirit around here would suck. Time is key everyone, give it about a week or two and you won't even notice it anymore. If by chance you do, then you have just kept it in your mind not wanting to let it go.

I'm surprised at everyone's reaction to the dark backgrounds. This is actually easier on the eyes to me because I spend most of my time looking at light on dark.

EDIT:

Did you guys actually like the user rankings I threw together? They didn't take me that long and were really just examples.

I like everything, and the dark color scheme, it's just.. it's black. Black and different shades of it. Only thing I dislike.

I say there should be a light color scheme skin and dark color scheme skin. Just for the people that dislike the dark scheme. :O

It's not "black" there is only one color of black, it's dark browns. Lol. Adjust your contrast and brightness a little bit. :p Black is in the image in my signature. There is a big difference.

actually its HEX value is #191818 but the RBG value is (25,24,24) Lol. Sorry just being nit picky, but then again it is pretty darn close to black true, but still much lighter than it.

Yeah, I have my monitor brightness set way below "correct" (though everything else was calibrated, I just dropped that afterward) and I can clearly see it's nowhere near black :/

I turned on signatures to see what the fuss is about.

First I realized that you don't see spotlight maps with sigs off.

Second I noticed that when you expand signatures they take up more room than the signature would have by itself which is dumb.

Having turned sigs back off, spotlight maps stayed on, so maybe it just needed to be toggled or I just needed to refresh some random config file that hadn't been refreshing.

How do you turn sigs on and off? I didn't see an option for this in the user CP
