Oct 8, 2009 - Valve, creator of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced Scavenge, the fourth game mode to be included in its upcoming zombie thriller, Left 4 Dead 2.

Scavenge mode challenges players to compete in round-based games of up to 8 players (Survivors vs. Infected). The Survivors must battle both the Infected and the clock as they collect gas cans to refuel a generator located in each map. Every can the Survivors pour into the generator scores their team a point and adds time to the clock.

On defense, the Infected team plays as the boss Infected (including the new Spitter, Jockey, and Charger). They must keep the Survivors from fueling the generator by attacking them, destroying the gas cans, or running out the clock. During a round, each team gets an opportunity to play both sides, with the round going to whichever team successfully delivers the most cans.

Coming exclusively to Xbox 360 and PC, L4D2 promises to set a new benchmark for co-operative action games and become one of 2009's marquee titles. Set for release on November 17, the title adds melee combat to enable deeper co-operative gameplay, with items such as a chainsaws, frying pans, axes, baseball bats, and more.

L4D2 also introduces the AI Director 2.0, adding the ability to procedurally change weather effects, world objects, and pathways in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match the players' performance. The result is a unique game session custom-fitted to provide a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience each time the game is played.

Finally, with new Survivors, boss zombies, weapons, and items, Left 4 Dead 2 offers a much larger game than the original, featuring more co-operative campaigns, more Versus campaigns, new Survival maps, and a brand new competitive mode all available at launch.

Wow that infected on the coach head looks awesome, never seen it before.

The jockey. Jumps on peoples heads and tries to force them in a different direction.

The gamemode looks pretty cool, there's a few videos around of the new gamemode, infected and even a female boomer :D

you know... like L4D1??

I thought the infected you played as in L4D1 were 'special infected' and only tanks and witches were bosses

If you watch youtube video's, you do get to play as these new infected. You could also play as Tank's in the first L4D, when the AI director decides to give you one. But you couldn't play as a witch.

Boomer was female in L4D.

Jockey looks a little too comical, its like they took the gritty, atmosphereic, post apocolyptic world they'd nailed so damn perfectly and thrown it off one of those seattle skyscrapers.... :(

and YET again, the people they get to play for the video demos are the most unbelievably rubbish players ever. see how they split up instantly, one guy gets pinned and no one goes to his rescue? Game publicists need some kind of quality control over who they let play their game for video demos, it gives out a REALLY bad indication of what it's like.

Also, lawlwtfxbawkssucks.

no their are videos of boomers so i would assume all can be played (also female boomer apparently)

The "boss" and "special" infected apparently in l4d are the same. Even valve is not consistent with the names so at this point it doesnt make a different i guess.

Looks like one person playing with 3 bots.

Hence the fail.

Just pushing this out in the open. I probably won't have enough money to buy the game this year (I might barely make it by the steam holiday sale). The reason why it's harder is because I rarely get money and my parents are paranoid about using their credit cards online so I would have to buy a pre-paid gift card for 60$.

get a debit card you only have to be 15 at least in Florida. Or give them 60 bucks and say can i use your credit card to buy something online or actually 45 bucks however much it is.
