Medieval Rook (KOTH) 1.1.2
Sharpen your swords, flame your arrows, and don your preferred powerup!
Sharpen your swords, flame your arrows, and don your preferred powerup; let's crank our medieval warfare up a notch!
Rook reeks of magic- not Merasmus, though, some other oddity... Mannpower powerups. We know 'em, we have mixed feelings on 'em.
What if I told you Rook contains the solution to all this fuss?
Introducing the Power Gates: Walk through one of these, and you'll have one instance of your team's powerup out on the battlefield. Be mindful that the gates are a one-time use, excluding the mini-crit gate. If you lose your favorite powerup, you better go snatch it from those enemies!
Engineers, the poor Texan men, they don't get a chance to shine in Medieval. Not to fear, for pre-built nests are here! Engineers can gather metal and upgrade their teleporters, dispensers, and sentries if they choose to. That'll keep pesky enemies away from your spawn.
Also, no grappling hooks are allowed!
Below is a basic summary of all the Powerup Gates...
-Mini-Crits (FREE Buff Banner mini-crits!)
-Thorns (Recycled into a once-per-round perma-cloak with no capping allowed; cannot be picked up.)
-Strength
-Resistance
-Vampire
-Reflect
-Haste
-Regeneration
-Precision (Caber Demoknights and Equalizer Soldiers will love this.)
-Agility
-Knockout
This map boils down to an experimental combo of Medieval+Mannpower+KOTH. The powerups, when it comes to primaries and most secondaries, can be really obnoxious. With mini-crits and mostly melees, in theory, this should level out the playing field. In my opinion, this is probably how Mannpower should've been handled to rejuvenate Medieval mode.
Rook was made before my TF2Maps 2023 JAM submission, Broadcast, but that map took priority given the 72hr deadline. Either way, Rook has finally arrived! This map is also probably my second-most logic-heavy map around, so hooray.
Don't be afraid to leave feedback and share your experiences! Let me know if you'd like to see more of my maps. Take it easy, folks.
I have a community server themed around mostly old-school TF2: the SMIZZ server. It contains older custom maps (along with mine), improved and functional TFBots, loads of silly rebalancing, and much more! The IP for anyone willing to join: 209.192.176.10
To download and play the map yourself:
1) Subscribe, boot up TF2, and go to this folder address: steam/steamapps/workshop/content/440
From there, visit the folder with the matching workshop link ID, then copy-paste it into your tf/maps folder.
2) Open TF2, then go to your console and type map workshop/insert workshop link ID here to download and enter the map.
