An alpha test version of a variant Arena gamemode, based on LizardOfOz's Vscript Arena (modified with permission).
The concept is fairly straightforward -- it's a normal arena game, except instead of simply staying dead until the end of the round, players who die go to hell -- there they play a Player Destruction map, and every interval the team leader for the team holding the most souls is resurrected back to the main Arena match.
This is intended to grant a not overwhelming, but not trivial benefit to the team that performs well in the underworld, so as to give players something meaningful and interesting to do while waiting for the next round, ideally eliminating one of the most common complaints about Arena mode.
Lore-wise, the intended final product is meant to build on Medic's bargain with the Devil in the comic -- collect enough souls, and you can bargain your way back to Earth.
This test map is the bare minimum viable product for testing -- the maps are reused Valve maps, the assets are all reused minus two new voice lines for which an in-game version didn't exist (bearing in mind I'm not a voice actor). Primary objective of this test is to see if the actual gameplay is as fun as I'm hoping, and see if the code (which I've only tested with bots) works robustly.
I have very little experience in Hammer and with map design in general; If the test is successful enough to move forward with developing the map, I'd be hoping to find someone who'd be interested in making an actual map/maps to work with this gamemode -- and at the very least an actual voice actor.
As mentioned above, this script uses LizardOfOz's Vscript Arena code, with modifications made with permission.
