Not quite sure what do you want to bring up by this post. That you also plan it out in 2D?
Layout drawings get a lot cleaner if they're drawn with lines, not rectangles. Also, gotta remember you draw for yourself, as you have to memorise the heights, pickups and stuff more difficult to record on paper and likes.
Hammer representation should differentiate, and include the heights (at the very least). Also, most of good maps have accessible areas under each other, which you can't get on paper so that you just copy it in hammer, assuming the drawing is top-down.
