Maybe, but I think a material like microphone mesh has a certain detail threshold of over-simplification, at which point the thing that would be easily recognized ceases to be microphone mesh, because that amount of detail is essential. It's just too fine a detail to go without, and any simpler and it would become just a grey blob. Which might be ok. I might experiment with it, but I might not.
